Years of collecting rocks all for nothing. My $1,100.00 a gram turquoise was stolen by drug addicts. My beautiful tools I bought myself over the years, all gone. Everything I cared about - thrown away for pennies on the dollar I'm sure. I don't know if I'll restart my business or not. I might not have it in me anymore.

Herkimer Diamonds with black (hydrocarbon) inclusions.. so cool!

Not actually diamonds, the "diamond" in their name is due to both their clarity and natural faceting - crystals possess double termination points and 18 total faces (six on each point, six around the center).

The crystals contain a wide range of inclusions. Particles of solid hydrocarbon materials are the most common inclusion. They range from small eye-visible particles down to micron-size particles, which, when abundant, can impart a smoky color to the crystals. Salt water and liquid petroleum are the most common liquid inclusions. Carbon dioxide is the most common gaseous inclusion. Calcite, dolomite, pyrite, sphalerite, and quartz (often in the form of tiny "Herkimer diamonds") are common mineral inclusions.

Where there are Herkimer diamonds there is also hydrocarbon. Some miners and collectors talk about "chasing the carbon", meaning that when they dig for crystals they try to do so where there is a larger amount of hydrocarbon.
