Makers Log: Volume 2026, Verse 8
Location: Nineveh, Indiana
This past weekends faire was super fun. I've never been to Indiana before and its ALWAYS fun to explore a new place. Plus, MANY of my vendor friends were in attendance so I felt right at home🖤 We all return for 1 more weekend, so if you're in the area come see us!
But in this makers log I wanna talk about something a bit different. I wanna talk about the drive back to home base in Minnesota yesterday. This was a TOTALLY different kind of travel day than I'm used to.
For each of the previous weeks covered in my makers log this year travel day would start at about 7 pm Sunday when Dante (trusty faire sidekick extraordinaire and my amazing son) and I finished pack out of that weekends faire. We then would drive as fast as the law and weather allows (with as few stops as possible) back home, often arriving at 1-2 am. Mostly because he had school the next morning.
With the start of summer vacation, I'm able to go a bit further because school isn't an issue. So, with a 9-10 hr drive home from Indiana this weekend, we didnt leave until yesterday morning.
About 3 hrs into the drive we stopped at a modern Charlie and the Chocolate Factory experience. (If you've never had Albanese gummy bears you so gotta try them...they are way less of a jaw workout than that other brand). After spending a half hour or so perusing the sweet smelling store I bought more sugar than we should prolly have access too and hopped back on the road.
Next stop, our FAVORITE macaroni and cheese shop. Located only in Wisconsin, Macs is a treat we dont get often, but EVERY TIME we pass Wisconsin Dells we make it a point to stop . Its sooooo good!
At this point, your probably like is this entire post about food? Alas, it is not.
After leaving Wisconsin Dells we started noticing a LOT of police presence. I was like hmmm seems like a lot for a Monday, but whatever, I always just set the cruise control at the speed limit and drive like one is supposed to so I wasn't too concerned about them.
But shortly after that it became pretty obvious why they were there.
Driving along, I looked in the rear view and saw a fancy car. Dante is a HUGE car buff (hes got me watching F1 races together when we can) so Im like LOOK BUDDY!!! Pointing out the car. He informs me that its some type of rare and very expensive McClaren. (I only know 2 types of vehicles- fancy and not fancy) we ohh and awww a bit as it flys past.
A few minutes later, a beautiful Ferrari goes by.
Then a exquisite Porsche.
Im like where were these guys all at?
A bit of googling revealed that we were experiencing the joy that is the Gold Rush Rally. We saw a total of 8 exotic and rare cars in the last leg of our journey. Pretty sure the last one, seen right at the MN/WI border, was Rexi... the car in the pic.
It was such a fun trip home 🖤 I just had to share.
