These texturing wheels are awesome. Super quick to use, available in 6 different pin thicknesses, and they leave behind everything from a soft satin finish all the way to a much more aggressive texture. Sold individually or as a set of 6 through .jewelry and if you’re heading to JCK you can stop by their booth to check them out in person.

I’ll be finishing this sizing and demoing a few other pieces live at in booth.

Diamonds may top out the Mohs hardness scale, but they’re not technically the hardest form of carbon. A rare material called Lonsdaleite can form during asteroid impacts and theoretically can be even harder. So naturally I went online and bought some space diamonds to test against a real diamond… and things got suspicious pretty quickly.

Sharpie’s claim they’re permanent… but every jeweler knows marker wipes right off polished metal.

So I decided to fix that problem by turning a normal Sharpie into an actual permanent marker.

I replaced the felt tip with silver tubing, cut a seat with a setting but, and set a diamond upside-down into the opening.

I tested it on pearl, opal, garnet, sapphire, diamond, and one of the hardest metals known to science, a gold-platinum alloy called Netherite.

Next up, Lonsdaleite?

Penny loved both her rings… just not the awkward gap between them. Normally, I’d cut a notch into the engagement ring, but her basket setting sat too low to safely modify. So instead, I stretched open the wedding band and built a contoured bar underneath to make the rings lineup flush while still allowing her to wear them separately. A tiny modification that makes a huge difference.

Alethia’s ring needed to go from a 5.5 to a 7, but the alternating marquise and rectangle sections left me with no clean options for a seamless resizing. So I made the choice to add an extra marquise section and make it look as good as I could. It all worked out in the end though as Alethia was absolutely thrilled with my work. I especially love her reaction at the end.

Cameron inherited her grandmother’s engagement ring… but she’s already married.

She didn’t want to replace the ring her husband gave her—but she also couldn’t leave this one sitting in a box.

So instead of choosing between them, we found a way to keep both.

One stays on her hand.
The other stays close to her heart.

Would you have done the same?

Anita’s rainbow eternity band was two sizes too big… and there’s no empty space to work with.

Every stone had to come out before I could even start— and to make it fit, one of them didn’t make it back in.

Not exactly a decision you want to make… but sometimes there’s no clean way around it.

So what would you do with the extra stone?

Megan bought this ring knowing the centerstone was fake and that it didn’t even fit her finger.

She came in to get it sized and to have her grandma‘s diamond put in instead. The problem was her grandma’s diamond was a bit smaller than the cubic zirconia so I had to retrofit the ring to make it fit.

This watch still ticks, but it never told the right time. Instead of fixing it Ashley asked me to turn her mom‘s watch into something she’d actually wear. That meant removing the movement, protecting the delicate chain-bordered bracelet, and setting an 11.5 carat emerald cut Iolite right into the case. It sounds ridiculous, but it works.

Mary brought me her grandmother‘s class ring. It’s a piece that had survived decades but didn’t exactly fit Mary’s finger so I carefully restored it so it could be worn again without losing its history or character. It still looks the way her grandmother remembered it, just two sizes larger now.
