Was able to make it to Cedaredge yesterday and shoot a match with the Rimfire folks. They use the USBR target ....which is really tough. I shot my slug gun....and I was pretty pleased with my performance. The wind was not terrible for the first card, but pretty unruly for the second. I ran the clock down for both cards. It's good to shoot other ranges and try to learn the quirks under pressure.

They require me to shoot in a separate air class at this range, but I did shoot the highest scores overall so I'm happy about that.

Get yourself signed up for the only real Air and Rimfire 50y benchrest tournament in the world.

The National 50 Benchrest League Nationals are on August 21-23 at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico.

What's a real benchrest tournament?

To hold a meaningful match, you have to eliminate luck.

The Nationals are an 18 card match. The winners are decided by aggregate score, not a single card.

The Nationals are held on a real benchrest range with 75 covered concrete benches. All shooters are on the firing line at the same time.

The range has no obstructions to cause odd wind.

The Nationals have bench rotation every card.

The Nationals have only one relay.

All shooter cards are hung for everyone to see before the next card is finished.

Any shooter can protest any other shooter's card and initiate a scoring review.

The N50 Nats are comprised of 3 classes of 6 cards each... Pellet, Sportsman, and Pro.

Pellet is any 22 caliber pellet gun and rest under 100fpe.

Sportsman is Factory made Rimfire with tuners and Unlimited Air. 22 cal

Pro is Unlimited Rimfire and Unlimited Air. 22 cal

There is an Overall category that is the 18 card agg of all classes and also a Pellet Overall 18 card agg that is for those that will shoot a pellet gun in all 3 classes.

The wind was roaring most of the day yesterday but layed down to reasonable speeds after dinner. Shot some 25 shot groups with slugs at 50y in speed ranges from 820-930. Not sure any particular speed is better than another.

The full card was shot at 25y 50gr slugs indoors just to see what would happen. I was testing some other low power (20fpe) pellet guns inside because it was 30 plus mph outside. The shop isn't super tight so there is definitely some movement inside when it's that bad outside....enough that it moves the pellets a fair amount. I didn't hold off at all for the slugs. Number 8 is where I adjusted the scope and there is 5 or 6 shots there. Kind of interesting. Doesn't seem to indicate any weirdness coming from the rifle at short range.

The group is 25 or 35 shots at 50y (don't remember now) outdoors with me doing my best to hold for the wind with same setup.

Made an adapter to fit a Bix n Andy trigger into the strike. It has some sear drag right now since the sear is spring loaded upwards. Early results aren't as good on the target. Maybe I'll think of something in time?

40 shot group at sea level in Oxnard, CA. Tracking like it should. Plus some pork ribs, bread, and veg.

Some groups at 50 with slugs.

10shot, 10 shot, 20 shot, 20 shot, and 2 30 shot. Both 30 shot groups were entirely a dead center hold in 2-4 highly variable wind. No waiting or holding off. 😀
