If you’ve been following along, you know that about a month and a half ago my daughter Zela and I made the decision to rescue every single donkey out of the kill pen in Bowie, Texas.
Forty-one donkeys.
Forty-one lives that were destined for a tragic ending.
What felt impossible somehow became possible through complete faith, determination, and the kindness of so many beautiful people who stepped in to help. The Sun Horse Foundation quite literally leapt off a mountain believing we could do this — and with the help of incredible donors, haulers, quarantine facilities, our community sharing our posts, sweet and generous David our friend who is allowing the donkeys to say at his ranch until we can adopt them and of course, all of you cheering these donkeys on, we made it happen.
The Blessed Bunch has officially arrived in California. ✨
Now they get to rest peacefully beneath the stars and glowing moon, surrounded by quiet wilderness, safety, nourishment, and love. No fear. Never to be discarded again. No auctions. No uncertainty about tomorrow. ONLY LOVE from here on!
Just peace and happiness as long as they live on this earth.
Watching these gentle, sentient, deeply loving beings step onto safe ground has been one of the most emotional and meaningful experiences of our lives. Many of them arrived bonded in pairs and sweet families, and we are committed to keeping those bonds intact as we slowly begin their healing journey and eventually find loving homes for them.
This… this is what life is about to us.
Compassion put into action.
Choosing love when it would be easier to look away. This rescue was very big for us, we contribute our strong belief in doing the right thing, being positive and believing that it would all work out if we follow our heart which we did - and with that attitude we took the leap of faith and saved them all!
