These three cuties will be part of the Love Cats Art Auction at the end of the month. Just in time for The Day of the Dead or Dia de Los Mu***os. This holiday is near and dear to my heart.
My first shrine was made for my Dad and my Cat in late 2003.
I then helped plan events at the Sprague Branch Library in sugarhouse for many years after making sugar skulls and continued celebrating each year with family and friends. It’s such a beautiful holiday to honor departed loved ones and has been a great way to process grief.
I highly recommend the book The Skeleton at The Feast by Carmichael Sayer to learn more about the rich cultural heritage and meaning of this holiday.
One of my favorite artists Crafty Chica has some of the best craft and art ideas to celebrate! The two skulls are made with paper mache and the beads are mostly up-cycled from other jewelry.
