THIS TINY CARNIVOROUS PLANT TURNS PURPLE WHEN IT DRIES. 😳🌿
Scientists have described a new butterwort from the cloud forests of Hidalgo, Mexico called Pinguicula brendae.
Its sticky leaves trap and digest tiny insects, but what first caught researchers’ attention was its color. The little plants can appear ruby purple when dry and greener when wet.
Even more surprising, the species is known from just one limestone cliff, and researchers counted fewer than 250 mature plants there.
The whole known wild population of this newly described carnivorous plant is basically hanging onto one mountainside. 😳
