ALL ABOUT THE COLOR RED!
Red was the first color humans ever used - and it’s never stopped evolving.
On Tuesday, February 24, join instructor, Sam Taylor, for a day devoted to the color red.
You’re welcome to take one class or both.
--- 10:00 AM — Pigment Stories: The Very First Color
This is a deep dive into red pigments... with a watercolor focus.
We’ll explore a range of historical and modern red pigments — from earth-based ochres to botanical lakes to contemporary synthetics — discussing where they came from and how they behave now.
We’ll test, swatch, compare, and geek out. Expect conversation about permanence, transparency, staining, and how each pigment moves on paper.
This lesson is part history, part chemistry, part application --- Let's geek out!
--- 1:30 PM — Fire Horse: An Illustrative Study in Texture & Color
In the afternoon, we’ll keep some of the red theme going and apply what we’ve learned to a watercolor project loosely inspired by the Lunar New Year.
This class will focus on:
Texture, Layering, Pigment Relationships. Controlled and Expressive Techniques
We’ll translate pigment knowledge into a project with texture and whimsy.
You may register for one or both sessions.
A light lunch will be provided between classes.
$48 / per class
All materials included.
