It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Charlie Bean. He was a pillar in the community, a local legend, the unofficial mayor of Newry, and a friend to everyone who walked through the gem shop door.
Charlie & his late wife Beth opened Sunday River Gems in 1992, and it has been a staple in the area ever since. They wanted to have a shop that carried unique and locally mined gems/minerals that could be accessible to customers of all budgets. Mr. Bean poured his heart & soul into the shop, and his dedication to SRG was unparalleled.
After 33 years in operation, our doors have closed, the flags have been put away, and our lights will remain off. It’s the end of an era, and we thank you all for being a part of our history.
Thank you to our regular customers for all of your support- birthdays, holidays, engagements- you included us in those moments and that’s really something special. Thank you to the families who span generations, who have made a trip to our shop an anticipated part of your annual vacation. Thank you to our friends in the community who stepped up and provided some extra hands when we needed it most. Each & every one of you are a part of the SRG family & we are grateful for you.
