A customer (and old friend) asked about making a pendant to representing the James Webb Telescope deep field image. It shows stars and galaxies and is fascinating. They asked about using meteorite in it, I said, sure I’ve got some! ☄️

Here is the image, the CAD rendering I did first, and the final piece using a Gibeon meteorite slice and Sapphires and Diamonds in Sterling Silver.

What do you think of this Ring?

The Desert Dream Ring

I went a little bit crazy with this design, I admit. Sterling Silver, Royston Turquoise, Red Garnet and Cloud Mountain Turquoise.

Note my new FOXFIRE fox stamp inside. Pardon my jeweler’s hands.

Back when I was just a beginning jeweler, say about 45 years ago, my parents went on a trip to Arizona and they brought back some turquoise. I made a few pieces with turquoise and silver, including one for my mother. This one I made using a pitch pot, which I had recently acquired back when and with chasing and repoussé techniques.

My mom passed on and the pendant came back to me and I’ve been wearing it, and I thought it might be fun to re-create the piece and put it in my repertoire. So here it is the one on the left is the piece I created 40 some years ago, and on the right is the one I just finished.

Now before I did that I had to obtain and prepare a pitch pot, and it’s very nice to have it back in my tool collection. I expect to make some more pieces like this in the future.

The new pendant is a little bit bigger than the old one and it features Sterling silver with Egyptian Turquoise. It is part of my line.

Here’s the beginning of my next Shaman Spirit pendant. It will have a bone face, Nacozari turquoise, all in Sterling Silver.

I envisioned using the 4 directions North, South, East and West with this one (a first)

The center direction motif is actually from my Four Elements pendant and the wings are cast from my original CAD design. Lots more to be done.

I made this pendant around 40 years ago for my mother. It came back to me when she passed and I’ve been wearing it. Now I’m going to make this style again. I think I recall pretty well how to do it.

I don’t know where my pitch pot went for the repoussé and chasing… so I got a new one and filled it with chasers pitch.

What do you think of this style?

My latest pendant

I started making jewelry at a young age somewhere around 18 to 20.
Way back then I did do a little work with turquoise and certainly in that particular skill set.

But then I graduated to doing fine jewelry which means luscious colored gemstones, diamonds,
18 and 14 karat gold and platinum
and learned a lot of advanced techniques along the way.

I had a fine jewelry store
Foxfire Jewelers for over 30 years
and later actually opened a couple more stores that were called Things Rich and Strange.

The pandemic actually closed my last door in 2020 and I was left with no real reason to make for stock the kind of jewelry that I had made before.
(Although I still do lots of Custom Designs in gold and gems online.)

I had a little bit of time on my hands and I realized that I had some turquoise I had bought
maybe 20-25 years before at the Indian jewelry supply in Albuquerque New Mexico.

Why did I buy it? Who knows I had no use for it whatsoever until… 2020.
So for fun and to keep from going stir crazy I started making these pieces in turquoise
and I really fell in love with it.
