✨ Brand new ✨ ♥️ emoji we just got in. At 3.08ct certified pigeons blood, this ruby is serious business! Really lovely stone with rich red color. I can’t wait to see what it becomes. See it on the website at RH3080!

Learning some gem cutting starts with grinding some agates. Removing the brown outer layer or “host matrix” that the precious stone (agate) grew against. It was very fun and also very wet.

Learning some gemstone cutting right here in NYC has been a great adventure and I want you all to see. It’s been a great opportunity that i’m very thankful for and i’m looking forward to showing you more.

More from my Montana trip where we got to tour another great mine. Bruce was amazing for taking the time to show the equipment and the gold that runs under his property. This is a bonus on top of the sapphires. When this area was originally mined over 100 years ago, it was for the gold and no one cared about the sapphire. Now its the reverse. It’s a little bonus at the end of the year for the miners, especially now that gold is so high.

Gem buying is definitely one of the most fun parts of the job but it takes a lot of time and effort. Sometimes I get to do it from the comfort of my office but other times its in a crazy and hectic market with prices and stones all over the place. Not sure which one I prefer more to be honest.

Narrowing down from hundreds or even thousands to just a handful is extremely common but then start the negotiations. My father taught me to be very diligent and disciplined in buying and making sure to buy stones based on quality, rather than price. However, price certainly comes into play and is a key deciding factor in the end.

I love my job 😁

Hope you enjoyed seeing behind the scenes ✌️
