Besides the fashionable bobbed women shown in Joan Sloan's 1928 «Sixth Avenue Elevated at Third Street», the painting features the historic elevated railway that ran from W 59th St to Rector St, demolished in 1939. Bonus points for spotting the tower of Jefferson Market, which, thankfully, still stands. Erected in 1877, the building served as a courthouse, a library, the set of a Stella McCartney fashion show, and a women's prison. Among the prison's well-known inmates were political activist Angela Davis, alledged spy Ethel Rosenberg, and the woman behind Warhol's failed assassination, Valerie Solanas.
