Interestingly, the lymphatic system is how your body absorbs dietary fats. While most nutrients enter the blood through the liver, long-chain fatty acids are too large to enter the capillaries directly. Instead, they are absorbed into specialized lymph vessels in the small intestine called lacteals. These fats are turned into a milky fluid called "chyle," which then travels through the lymphatic system before eventually entering the bloodstream near the heart.
