An antique solitaire so captivating from every angle that it felt necessary to post longer clips than usual! Hand-engraved orange blossoms envelop the shoulders as they taper to meet an ornate basket that resembles a tiny crown of fleur-de-lis. The diamond, a 1.15 carat Old European Cut, displays bold flashes of light from its broad facets. This c.1920s ring features an old cut diamond enveloped in exquisite engraving. I’m particularly fond of the tripartite shoulder detailing, which recalls the petals of a tulip - a welcome springtime harbinger of brighter days ahead. Tucked inside this luminous sapphire and diamond Victorian half hoop band is the maker’s mark “A&W” for Alabaster & Wilson, a small but renowned jewelry house established in 1887 in the historic Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, England.
