Inspired by the majesty of bridges, the simplest of hardware elements, and the place where fashion and art converge with Old World craftsmanship. The necklaces, which began with a sterling silver lock (cast from an industrial carabiner), allow wearers to personalize their pieces with chains, stones or pearls that can be worn long, or wrapped as chokers and bracelets. Oh, platinum. Fun fact: most every piece in the collection can be made in platinum and we have a small (but mighty!) coterie of customers around the world who steadfastly order their pieces in platinum. You know who you are. I’m right there with you.
Platinum is weighty and has a beautiful very specific luster.

Honestly I wish more people would ask for platinum. In fact maybe we stop selling everything else.....I don’t know...what do you think about that?

Yesterday we introduced a new way for you to make your chains Talk with Talking Chaincharms and Greek Talking Chains...which brings us to another way you can say things with jewelry and that is with our Letter Locks.

Each letter has its own particular way of “being” on a chain or a strand. The Letter Locks were launched in 2019 and pay homage to the Bauhaus and the androgeny of that era — a time where there was a desire for beauty in practicality and women quite literally dressed for it with men’s suits becoming all the rage—think of the glorious images of Marlene Dietrich from that time.

We didn’t quite accept a Bauhaus typeface for our Letter Locks, opting instead to make our own with form following function as we moved through each letter and size.

Every letter had to be thought through to retain its usefulness—which is something I obsess about—how you will use them. We made them in two sizes. We stoned them.

More things to say, more ways to play.

We told you about them yesterday and now we’re here. Let’s keep it simple. 3 things you need to know about our growing world of Talking Chains.

1. Talking Chaincharms: They’re here. Officially. Letters in silver or gold with two loops so you can wear them with all of our Locks and Chains (and your personal chains) thereby transforming any chain into a Talking Chain.

#2 Greek Letter: Whether you want a classic Talking Chain or a Talking Chaincharm, whatever you want to say you can now say it in Greek. Or combinations of the regular alphabet and the Greek alphabet. Let’s say you’re in a sorority. You could get your Greek Letters + your initials. Attach them to the Heartlock? You do you.

#3 Talking Chains: They are alive and well. We still make them. You will still say things with them. The point of all of this is to give you more options.

We have something SERIOUS that we need to “talk” to you about...

Tomorrow at 11 am we are giving you two new ways to make your jewelry talk…walk with us.

#1: Meet Talking Chaincharm

It is not quite a chain. It is not quite a charm. It is a .

Quite simply, we added loops to both ends of your chosen characters—letters, gemstones, and the like—so they can be worn with all of your jewelry.

Use a Lock to complete the chain. Dangle one Chaincharm from a Lock. Dangle several. Wear it as a charm, a connector, a message, or something we have not thought of yet.

This is really just the next step in our ongoing quest to help you say—and do—more with Talking Chains.

Talking Chaincharms will be available (tomorrow, Thursday, September 3rd) in both the classic alphabet...and...

#2 Greek Letters.

That’s right. Your chains can now speak Greek. And you can now begin with a minimum of two characters versus three.

What About Original Talking Chains?

Let’s be clear: We still love our original Talking Chains. The entire point of this is to give you more options.

You can still order a Talking Chain in which the chain and characters are made as one continuous piece, finished with a Loop for attaching and closing with a Lock.

We cannot wait to see what longtime Talking Chain collectors do with the new Chaincharms.

It is one big game of Scrabble, fridge poetry, Bananagrams—you get it.

Fordite is a material that comes from layers of excess car paint from car factories. When you cut the slabs open you don’t know exactly what you’ll find so each cut is one of a kind. It is unbelievably light and unbelievably colorful and with we make Locks, discs, charms, boxes, and use it for inlay, too. It’s been on runways, specifically the Roland Mouret show. No photo, ours included, will ever do it justice, and our work with it will never be done. There is something so poignant about using something discarded and reimagining it as something beautiful to wear and cherish…the high and low of it. Little pieces of history reworked. We have a lot more to say about Fordite...we can’t wait to share more with you.

We’ve said this before and we will say it again. If you have the chance or the interest to own one of our hand engraved pieces or any hand engraved piece of jewelry for that matter just do it. Hand engraving is a literal dying art with fewer and fewer hand engravers working around the world. Their work is truly magical—treating metal like an art canvas and telling stories.

Our hand engraved pieces are the highest expression of the marriage between utility and beauty. The process with the artisans with whom we work—some of the most skillful hand engravers in the world, right here in New York City—is collaborative, but with a very light touch. No two are ever alike, each having its own story that is brought to life.

Not to be “sales-y,” but...they sell quickly. They last forever.

Oh, and a fun fact: Arthur Miller, who wrote the words engraved on the Vinaigrette Charmed Box that holds a fragrance…”Can anyone remember love? It’s like trying to summon up the smell of roses in a cellar. You might see a rose, but never the perfume,” was married to Marilyn Monroe.

Our little Locks pack a punch...Micro Babylock, Babylocks — stoned, regular, Baby DNA Locks, Baby Musgrave Locks, Baby Meander Locks, Baby Droplocks...and using them to combine a strand of pearls and a Heavy Curb Chain is a killer idea. That’s all.
