In Chavash culture, there is a legend that if you ride a horse under a rainbow you can change your gender. Non-binary people and those who blended the masculine and feminine were considered to be blessed with powers. Growing up, colonization created this idea that I could not wear my traditional costume, wearing it now as a non-binary person is further reclaiming history that stolen.
