NEXT STOP: GLASGOW
I got on the 8:55 pm flight to London which didn’t leave until ten o’clock. I tried to sleep but I was way uncomfortable for reasons that I won’t get into. Travel tip 3. Wear your most bummy and most comfortable clothes on a long flight. If you’re black, they’re going to pull you aside no matter how rock star you try to look. I arrived in London’s Heathrow airport and spent three hours hanging out in stores to find souvenirs for my co-workers. It was Thursday morning and Armistice day. At the stroke of 11 am, the entire airport stopped as traditional music filled the air. The silence was incredibly powerful. Veteran’s day in the USA doesn’t have the same reverence and a lot of that had to do with England surviving Germany’s Blitzkrieg attacks during World War Two.
After the moment of silence, life resumed and the moment passed as if it never had happened.
It was time to board my flight to Glasgow and I walked on the tarmac to board my flight. I always think of Casablanca when I board a flight like that.
I had a middle seat between two hotties but both of them were sporting wedding rings. 😡
I got a very chatty cabbie and we told each other tales of drinking in Edinburgh and New York.
I arrive at the Center of Contemporary Arts, the sidewalk is wet from drizzle and suddenly I am being hugged by family.
That night was amazing! Shilpa stood alone on the stage to sing The Storm, her delivery was powerful! I’m on stage with people that I never sang with before. The energy was ELECTRIC! Billy got carried away in his performance and did one of his collapses. I thought to myself,”ouch, I don’t think he meant to land like that”. Billy got up like it was all planned even though he hurt himself in the fall. WHAT A FU***NG PROFESSIONAL! No time to stop now, the show is on fire, the show must go on!
Then it was over and the crowd didn’t want it to be over. When was the last time or any time that the audience DEMANDED that we give an encore? We did Love at the Gate, it wasn’t enough, we FLED the stage anyway. The adrenaline slipped away and all l wanted was some hot food and a bed, Welcome to Glasgow, Miss Lee.
