With great sadness New City Park has lost one of our own, a lifetime resident, member and Board Member, Colleen Formicelli.

COLLEEN MARIE FORMICHELLI (née GILMARTIN) (July 25, 1954-February 12, 2025) Aged 70. Colleen Formichelli passed away Wednesday, February 12th, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Michael L. Formichelli, children, Michael A. Formichelli, Christina Formichelli, and Sabrina Formichelli, daughter-in-law Sara Formichelli, son-in-law Will Trautlein, grandchildren, Thomas and Anna Formichelli and Tyler and Oliver Trautlein, as well as her sisters Eileen Kalan and Carol Fuller, their husbands Roy and Mike, and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Joan Gilmartin. Colleen was a faithful wife and devoted mother and grandmother, and an active member of New City Park Club, as an officer and board member over the years. Born in New York City, she spent her childhood in the Inwood section of Manhattan before moving with her family to New City Park in 1969. She was an enthusiastic Den Mother to the Laurel Plains Cub Scouts, and she enjoyed sewing her children’s sometimes elaborate Halloween costumes. While raising a family in New City, she worked for local doctor I.J. Rosen in West Nyack before beginning a career as a distribution manager at the Rockland Journal News in West Nyack, and later at Gannett in Westchester. She spent her later years spoiling her grandchildren with love, designing and growing beautiful gardens with “help” from her grandchildren, and reading. Visiting hours will be Friday, February 21, between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine’s Church in New City on Saturday, February 22, at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Hi Tor Animal Care Center, Inc. (hitor.org).
