On Valentine’s Day, yes, you saw that right, Jay married his sweetheart, Alice, in a lovely ceremony in the main lobby of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. A trio of Silver Strings was in attendance bringing their favorite music to their wedding ceremony. We had a bird’s eye view from where we sat in a balcony overlooking the lobby. We get to see everyone entering down the aisle but once everyone is in place, we can’t see any of the ceremony. But with our keen sense of intuition, we were able to fit the music to the action. Judge Greg Stivers, with whom Jay had clerked in his early days as an attorney, presided over the ceremony, telling stories that brought smiles to the guests and musicians as well.

The couple had chosen contemporary songs for the prelude such as “Stand By Me”, “You’re My Best Friend”, “At Last”, “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. Finally it was time for the judge and grandparents to begin the processionals by entering to “Wind Beneath My Wings”. Next came Jay with his parents followed by the groomsmen, bridesmaids, ring bearer and flower girl to the requested “Heaven’s Gate” by Fall Out Boy. At long last Alice, in a gorgeous gown, floated down the aisle with her mother to “Moon River”. Judge Stivers, after making introductions, put the couple through their paces, telling the aforementioned stories in between a unity candle and their readings of their own vows. We played a verse of “You Raise Me Up”, stopping when it felt right since we couldn’t see them. With all the necessary parts of a wedding ceremony completed, Silver Strings sent the newlyweds back down the aisle to the Mendelssohn “Wedding March” from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Silver Strings congratulates Jay and Alice along with their families on their new life’s journey as husband and wife! May their lives be filled with abundant love, companionship and adventure all the days of their lives!

On 11/15/25 Catherine and Rick hosted their reception, after being married in a church in Franklin,TN, at CJ’s Off the Square in Franklin. Silver Strings was a trio for this wedding, playing a variety of contemporary songs such as “Bella’s Lullaby”, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You”, “La Vie En Rose”, “Romantic Flight” and “Married Life”, “Fly Me to the Moon”, “You’re Still the One” and “Chasing Cars”. They also requested that we play “Young and Beautiful” when they arrived at CJ’s after pictures were taken at the church. This reception was a piece of cake…so to speak. The weather cooperated beautifully…unusual for November…so we were comfortable being placed outside the pavilion.

Congratulations to Catherine and Rick! May their new life together be filled with love, laughter and abundance in all things!

On 12/4/25 a trio of Silver Strings played for a lovely memorial service at the Phillips Robinson Funeral Home in East Nashville. Every year about this time a memorial service is held in the chapel there for families of those who passed away during the year. The trio played traditional Christmas carols during the prelude. For the service a homily was offered after which attendees were invited to place an ornament on the Christmas tree in honor of their loved ones. During the placing of the ornaments the trio played more contemplative Christmas carols such as “Lo, How a Rose”, “Coventry Carol” and “All Is Well”. After the ornaments were placed, everyone was invited to sing “Silent Night”. The arrangement that the trio used combined the hymn “Night of Silence” as an obligato with the traditional “Silent Night” that is very moving when accompanying the voices.

Of all the different kinds of events that we musicians play during the year, this one stands out to us as being the most meaningful of anything else we do. It’s an honor for us to be a part of this very special remembrance at Christmastime.

On 11/1/25 in the afternoon, Susan and Bill were wed in the lovely Wightman Chapel on the campus of Scarritt Bennett. A Silver Strings trio was in attendance playing contemporary favorites including “So This Is Love”, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You”, “Somewhere Only We Know” and “Clocks”. When the time came for the processionals the trio started off with “Married Life” for many family members who each mounted the stage to light a candle. We played this song several times through to get at least 17 candles lit. Next came the parents and grandparents, also lighting candles, to “Here Comes the Sun”. The wedding party including two flower girls and two ring bearers entered to Ed Sheeran’s “The Joker and The Queen”, which has a really lovely melody appropriate for such an occasion. At last Susan made her entrance on her father’s arm to “Can’t Help Falling In Love”.

The officiant lead the couple through their vows and exchange of rings after which they did something that in all my years of playing weddings that I hadn’t seen before….the signing of the marriage license. To accompany this the trio played “Love Me Tender”. It was time to wrap things up and the couple had asked that we start “Closing Time” softly, as they kissed for the first time as husband and wife, then bring the volume up as the officiant introduced them as Mr. and Mrs.

Congratulations to Susan, Bill and their many family members on this joyful occasion! May Susan and Bill have a wonderful life together filled with joy, love and adventure!

10/19/25 Wedding at Southall Meadows
(Craig Duncan on violin, Linda Davis on viola., Paul Nelson on cello)

Reminder: The names have been changed to protect the guilty!

On October 19, 2025 a trio of Silver Strings was in attendance at the nuptials of Anne and Jason at the Southall Meadows venue in Franklin. The ceremony took place in a meadow behind the barn in the shade of a giant spreading oak tree. This couple requested mostly contemporary as well as old, familiar hymns for their prelude and processionals. Fighting a stiff breeze the trio began the prelude with songs that included “Gratitude”, “O Happy Day”, “Come Thou Fount”, “Come Thou Fount” and “Amazing Grace”. The mothers and grandmothers were seated to “Goodness of God”, the wedding party to “So Will I” and finally “Oceans” for Anne’s entrance on her father’s arm. Prayers and readings were offered, vows recited and rings exchanged and soon the newlyweds were off on their life’s journey as husband and wife to the strains of “This Will Be An Everlasting Love” followed by Maverick City Music’s “Promises”.

After the ceremony the trio decamped to play for the cocktail hour outside next to the barn. At least we were mostly protected from the wind for this hour. The couple chose fun stuff with songs such as “Isn’t She Lovely”, “Just the Way You Are”, “Tale As Old As Time”, “Viva la Vida” and “You Are the Best Thing”.

Congratulations are in order for Anne, Jason and their families! Silver Strings wishes them a life full of love, discovery and adventure!

10/18/25 Wedding near Bell Buckle

Reminder: The names have been changed to protect the guilty!

On 10/18/25 a quartet of Silver Strings drove out past Murfreesboro to a private address near Bell Buckle. There we played for the wedding of Gail and Chuck in the front yard of a relative’s home. It was certainly a scenic drive for all of us with so many twists and turns, we began to wonder if we were going to find the location. Fortunately our GPS worked (small miracle) and we finally pulled into the driveway for the home. This family was very considerate of us, having placed a canopy to shield us from direct sunlight or rain as the case might have been. Turned out that neither happened. It was overcast and no rain came.

I met with a couple of the groom’s stepfather and another relative to get some idea of what the quartet should play. The selection of tunes for the prelude and processionals turned out to be either hymns or mostly traditional classics for weddings. We played “Come Thou Fount”, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”, “The Prayer” and a few more contemporary, romantic songs for the prelude. We decided to make it easy for everyone since there were two mothers and a small wedding party by having everyone enter to the beautiful Pachelbel “Canon in D”. The groom’s stepfather officiated a lovely ceremony that only took a few minutes to accomplish all the necessary parts. The love displayed among the family members and the newlyweds was abundant. The Mendelssohn “Wedding March” from the Midsummer Night’s Dream swept everyone to the cocktail hour and subsequent reception.

For the cocktail hour the quartet decamped to the side of the house where we played songs such as “Bittersweet Symphony”, “Annie’s Song”, “Married Life”, “Here Comes the Sun”, saving “La Vie En Rose” for their first dance. Some of the elder guests took seats near us to enjoy our offerings. Overall the guests offered many compliments and appreciated that we came such a distance to be a part of Gail and Chuck’s wedding.

Silver Strings extends their congratulations to the newlyweds with wishes for a wonderful and loving life journey together!

10/18/24 Wedding at Cedarmont Farm

Reminder: The names have been changed to protect the guilty!

On 10/18/25 Jillian and Carl were wed in front of friends and family in a lovely setting on the property of Cedarmont Farm near Franklin. The location was outside the gate in an outcropping in front of the historic house outside the gate facing a beautiful wooded area. The quartet started off with contemporary selections such as “Concerning Hobbits”, Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and a couple of Taylor Swift favorites, “Wildest Dreams” and “Love Story”. Processionals began with “You Raise Me Up” for the mothers and grandmothers as well as the wedding party consisting of four couples. Finally the bride chose “Never Enough” from the Greatest Showman for her entrance preceded by the flower girl dropping petals as she walked along.

The ceremony proceeded with prayers, readings, vows and ring exchange until final introduction of Mr. and Mrs. The quartet played “All You Need Is Love” for the recessional punctuated by the cheering and applause from the guests.

Silver Strings congratulates Jillian, Carl and their families. May their lives be filled with love, happiness and a sprinkling of adventure!

On 10/4/25 Tara married her sweetheart, Zane, in the back yard of her childhood home. What was so special about this wedding was that her sister also got married earlier in 2025 with Silver Strings in attendance. We were thrilled to asked at to play for the sisters’ two weddings.

For the prelude Tara chose songs like “Mrs. Darcy”, “At Last”, “Moon River” and “To Make You Feel My Love”. The processionals began with “Your Song” for the mothers and grandmothers. For this wedding the mothers sat on opposite sides from the traditional bride’s mother on the left facing the stage to being seated on the right so she could see her daughter’s face. Next came the men to “Tuesday’s Gone” crossing to the left side, then the bridesmaids to “Iris” to stand in front of the men on the left. Then it was Tara’s big moment to walk down the aisle on her father’s arm to Taylor Swift’s “Invisible String”.

Vows recited, rings exchanged and at last, after all the planning and preparations, the happy couple was pronounced married and introduced as Mr. and Mrs. “Everlasting Love” sent them joyfully back down the aisle to begin their life together as a married couple.

Congratulations to Tara, Zane and their families! Silver Strings wishes them much love and happiness in the years to come!

On 10/4/25 Elena and David were wed in a lovely ceremony at her parents’ home. The ceremony took place outdoors in the shade of big trees where Elena used to play as a child and where she grew into a beautiful young woman. She mostly left the choice of music for the prelude so we played “Be Thou My vision”, “Goodness of God”, “A Thousand Years” and “The Prayer” among others. When Makayla, the planner and coordinator signaled us to begin the processionals, we started with “Vangelis Hymne” for the mothers and grandmothers, changing to “”How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” for the wedding party. When the wedding party was in place a bell was rung three times announcing the entrance of the bride. Her selection was “To Make You Feel My Love”.

After the vows were recited, the rings exchanged and finally the presentation of Mr. and Mrs., the quartet launched into “You Are the Best Thing”. Shortly after the recessional the guests were invited to the cocktail hour in a different part of the back yard. The quartet played a version of musical chairs, switching around to now send our music to guests enjoying a cocktail hour. The couple had asked for fun songs as well as love songs so we played “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You”, “Until I Found You”, “Dancing in the Moonlight”, “I’m Yours”, “Stand By Me” and “Best Part”.

Silver Strings congratulates Elena and David on embarking on their new life together as a married couple! We wish for them the love that grows with every passing day!

9/27/25 Wedding at CJ's Off the Square
Reminder: The names have been changed to protect the guilty!

On 9/27/25 Kathy and Jeri sealed their union with a kiss in front of their friends and family in the lovely garden at CJ's Off the Square. Before they got that far, Silver Strings quartet played songs such as "I Will Always Love You", "Birds of a Feather", "So This Is Love" and "Wildest Dreams" for the prelude as guests arrived. The couple chose "Canon in D" for the mothers, other family members and the wedding party that besides the attendants, included a flower girl and ring bearer. Next came Kathy to the song "To Make You Feel My Love" followed by Jeri to "A Thousand Years". Two officiants, Molly and Vivien, took the couple through their paces of vows and ring exchange. Refer back to the first sentence for the completion of the ceremony and they were on their way back down the aisle to "Married Life".

Silver Strings then played for the cocktail hour a variety of pop songs and classic rock with selections such as "Can You Feel the Love", "Fly Me to the Moon", "Brown Eyed Girl", "My Girl", "Dreams", "Enchanted" and "Can't Help Falling in Love".

Congratulations are in order for Kathy, Jeri and their families. May they have a long life together full of love, adventure and wonderful surprises!

Reminder: The names have been changed to protect the guilty!

9/20/25 found the Silver Strings trio at Cedarmont Farm for the nuptials of Susan and Thomas. Jocelyn Sprouse on violin and Gary Tussing on cello joined me for this wedding. Colleen, the owner of Cedarmont, had to step in to coordinate this wedding as her usual coordinator had come down with the plague (Covid). She’s recovered BTW. The ceremony went smooth as silk with some little variations from traditional weddings. Susan chose contemporary songs for the prelude and processionals. We played “Your Song”, “Lay, Lady, Lay”, “‘Til There Was You” and “In My Life” for the prelude.

It’s a good thing we arrived at Cedarmont for a 30 minute call to run a new arrangement and soon found that there was a mistake in one of the parts (mine). It seems the new software I had to start using had at least one bug that would have created a big problem had we not discovered it during our run-through before the prelude started. My software had inserted 6 extra bars randomly in my part that that kept messing us up when we rehearsed. We quickly made a plan to avoid the place where it occurred and managed to avoid a train wreck during the ceremony.

Meanwhile back at the ceremony, we played “If Not For You” (the messed up part) for the mothers and grandmothers. Then for the attendants, who were seated instead of standing in a line, we played James Taylor’s “Something In the Way She Moves”. The couple read self penned vows to each other followed by the ring exchange. Soon they were pronounced married and we sent them off to their new life together to “Maybe I’m Amazed”. The trio then decamped to the side of the reception barn to continue playing for cocktails, playing more James Taylor (You’ve Got a Friend) and many classic rock tunes such as “Higher Love”, “Latch”, “Tiny Dancer”, “Viva la Vida” and “Dream a Little Dream of Me”.

Congratulations are in order for Susan, Thomas and their families. Silver Strings wishes them a long and happy life together filled with love, surprises and adventure!

Reminder: The names have been changed to protect the guilty!

On 9/13/25 Carrie and Ibrahim were married in the Courtyard of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on a lovely afternoon with a backdrop of pedal bars slowly passing by with screaming tourists. The trio did it’s best to distract the guests with classical selections and familiar songs from the Bridgerton series. I was hoping the groom might want to have some traditional wedding music from India but the bride gets what the bride wants and we didn’t pull out any of that repertoire. We played “If I Ain’t Got You”, “Ladies in Lavender” “Perfect with Canon in D” and lastly, “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” to which the officiant entered to begin the ceremony.

For the groom along with the parents and grandparents, the bride chose “Beautiful Crazy”. For the wedding party the groomsmen, bridesmaids and flower girl entered to “You Are the Reason”. At long last the bride is in the spotlight as the trio plays “Can’t Help Falling in Love”.

A Christian service was conducted by the officiant consisting of the the vows, rings and presentation as husband and wife. Soon they were making their way back up the aisle to the strains of “This Will Be An Everlasting Love”. The trio then continued for the cocktail hour with contemporary songs such as “Wildest Dreams”, “Enchanted”, “Fly Me to the Moon”, “Thinking Out Loud” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” among other love songs.

Congratulations to Carrie, Ibrahim and their families. May their lives be filled with falling in love with each other ever deeper day by day.
