Australian opal care:

Cleaning Loose Opal - gently rub your opal using a soft jewelers cloth or wash with warm soapy water. Avoid immersing opal doublet and triplets into water as these are usually bonded with glue and the water may soften the glue. Cleaning Opal Jeweler - soak your sore opal jewelry in warm water with dishwashing detergent for 20 minutes then using an old soft toothbrush gently

clean around the setting. Doublet and triplet opal jewelry must not be soaked but can be gently clean with a little water and a soft toothbrush. Solid Australian opal from Lightning Ridge and Coober Pedy can tolerate the high vibrations of an ultrasonic cleaner however this could damage other types of opal

Australian opal is the most durable of all opals and measures 6.5 on Mohs scale. Wear your opals regularly and store separately from other jewelry.
