✨ From Rough to Radiant: Step 6 – Building the Foundations ✨

With the pietersite cabochons polished and complete, it’s time to begin creating the custom silver settings that will hold them.

Because every stone was shaped organically, each bezel must also be made individually by hand. We start by carefully matching each stone to a custom-cut backplate, then forming silver bezel wire to fit the exact contours of the cabochon. Once the fit is perfect, the bezel wire is soldered to the backplate thus creating the foundation for each setting.

This stage is where precision becomes critical. Every curve, every angle, every seam has to align perfectly so the finished bracelet feels seamless and refined.

For the central stone, we wanted something even more special.

Its backplate features a hand-sawn floral pierced-metal design, carefully cut one opening at a time with a jeweler’s saw. While much of this detail will remain hidden once the bracelet is complete, these small artistic touches are part of what transforms handcrafted jewelry into wearable art.

The bracelet is really beginning to take shape now, and we can finally start to see the finished vision coming together. ✨

✨ From Rough to Radiant: Step 5 – The Final Polish ✨

It’s been a couple of weeks since our last update...and for good reason! Between our annual Gem Dig and the Spring Jazz & Gems Party, the gallery has been wonderfully busy. But behind the scenes, work on our pietersite bracelet has continued.

Now we’ve reached one of the most satisfying stages of the process: the final polish.

This is where the true character of the stones finally reveals itself. With careful final polishing, the surface develops a deep, glassy sheen that brings the swirling colors and incredible movement of the pietersite to life. Rich browns, stormy blues, flashes of gold, these stones seem to shift and flow as the light moves across them.

One thing you may notice is that we didn’t force these stones into perfectly calibrated or identical shapes. Instead, we let the material guide the process. Each piece “spoke” to us differently, revealing the shape that best showcased its pattern, chatoyancy, and personality. The result is a far more organic bracelet; one that feels natural, artistic, and completely one-of-a-kind.

Every stone has its own voice. Our job is simply to help it be heard.

Next up: transforming these finished cabochons into the completed bracelet setting. ✨

✨ From Rough to Radiant: Step 4 – Bringing Out the Shine ✨

Now we move from rough shaping into true craftsmanship.

Each pietersite piece is carefully attached to a dop stick using traditional dop wax, allowing us to securely hold the stone while we refine its final form. This gives us the control needed to shape each cabochon into a smooth, balanced dome with graceful curves and a comfortable profile for setting.

Once the shaping is complete, the polishing journey begins.

Using the arbor, each stone is worked step by step through progressively finer grits. Every stage removes the marks from the one before it, gradually revealing more depth, more color, and more life within the stone.

With pietersite, this is where the magic happens. The swirling blues and rich browns deepen, and the chatoyancy starts to awaken. Flashes of movement and light that shift as the stone turns appear and dazzle.

What began as rough material is now becoming something extraordinary.

Next up: final polish and preparing these beautiful stones for their custom bracelet setting.

✨ From Rough to Radiant: Step 3 – Shaping the Vision ✨

With our best sections selected, it’s time to start bringing form to the stone.

At this stage, we begin shaping each piece of pietersite into the rough forms that will become our cabochons. Rather than cutting to perfectly calibrated sizes, this bracelet is designed with an organic feel in mind, each stone slightly different, yet working together in harmony.

This approach lets the material lead. Instead of forcing uniformity, we preserve the natural flow and character of each piece, creating a bracelet that feels alive and one-of-a-kind.

Even at this early shaping stage, the beauty is already starting to show. The swirling browns and deep blues are emerging beautifully—but what the photo can’t fully capture is the incredible chatoyancy. As these stones move in the light, they come alive with a depth and shimmer that’s truly mesmerizing.

Next step: refining the shapes and bringing out that inner glow.

Stay tuned… this is where things really start to shine. ✨
