My personal favorite is the red one and it’s not just because I have *always* been a “feisty redhead” but because I’ve spent A LOT of time reflecting on courage, which Ive found to be the flip side of fear. I have spent so much of my life with fear as a default guide, and when I realized how much that was contributing to my own suffering I leaned in to exploring what courage feels like. It feels similar, but like, you do it anyway.

I brought my kids and husband with to the WCCO & CBS News Minnesota studios last week to go live talking about The Locket Sisters and it was good for my kids to see how nervous I was, and then do it anyway. Courage, for me, is doing things scared / uncertain / nervous — distinguishing between the feelings that resemble intuition, and actual intuition — because some of the best steps forward I’ve ever taken were drenched in fear that nearly suffocated the part of me that *knew* what I needed to do. The Courageous Heart Locket is a bold color choice because courage requires it, even when no one would ever know how many micro events and decisions require your bravery, what you are wrestling with as a human being, it takes immense courage in this world to go forward, each day, with whatever circumstances surround your time here. Good for you for continuing. Keep going.

This is a *brand new* design (!!), and we just put it in pre-order in gold vermeil and silver. We worked with this shape for almost two years, knowing we wanted a boxy rectangle, but couldn’t nail the design on the front/back — everything felt like a replica of the Evelyn or just, like, energetically flat. We gotta be able to feeeeel the locket if we’re gonna put forth the effort to share it with you, and we can feel this one.

We put a “Little Thread” in every locket box we ship to you, which is a symbolic reminder to hang on, to keep going, that some sense of ease will find you, even if it isn’t what you’re looking for or hoped for or thought was the plan. Rainbows, too, come after storms, a beautiful reminder of the painstaking presence of impermanence, wrapped in wonder and beauty. They don’t diminish the power of the storm — it’s more like a balm that surprises us.

What I would have said if I had more time on air yesterday with WCCO & CBS News Minnesota yesterday to talk about lockets for graduation gifts is that just this week I helped someone order a locket for a grad who lost both of her parents in the last three years. She’s trying to get the locket to her before she wears the cap and gown in case that little vessel holding photos of her parents might bring even the smallest amount of comfort to the moment. Or how earlier in the week I helped grandparents order a new locket for their graduating granddaughter! Or how we upgraded shipping to overnight a locket so that a brother can bring his sister a locket with photos of her and their Mom who passed in 2019. And that we made one a couple years ago for a grad who was taking off for the Peace Corps and I still think about the photo often. And I think about the people who would have had a graduate this year but their lives were cut short. I think about the first generation college students about to shift history in their families. And the parents who’ve been weepy thinking about the bitter sweetness of both accomplishment and letting go. There are so many reasons people want a locket, and even under the occasion of graduation, each one holds their own incredible story, their own powerful notes on love.

Our new “Photo Preview Tool” is (FINALLY!) live at thelocketsisters.com, and on the one hand it’s a foolish time to launch it because we have higher than normal traffic before Mother’s Day, which means we could have higher than normal issues and glitches; but on the other hand, how have we come this far without it, and what if it helps people envision their special locket better? How could it not? The trust y’all have put into our craft without this over the last 8.5 years is remarkable — thank you. But now, we can’t wait to see how YOU want your photographs cropped.

The photos will be A-ok, so it’s more about wear and tear on the metal than your pictures. Silver is a wonderful metal because while wear and moisture may give it character, it polishes up well. Same with 14k gold. Our gold vermeil is a heavier-than-average 14k electroplating on silver (3 microns), and while it can remain gold forever, the more wear it has the more that warm hue will weather. With that said, I just wore my Gold Dorothy locket on a beach vacation with sunblock, salt water and sunshine without taking it off a single time and it still looks exactly the same. I love silver jewelry for its 24/7 durability (plus it’s just gorgeous) at a lower cost, although its value is rising faster than gold, even though gold value is banannnnaaassss high right now. All this to say, there are many factors that go in to choosing whether or not you wanna get your locket wet — some technical, some practical, and sometimes what (or who) is inside matters more than the outside, and the weathering of your beloved locket is worth the closeness to who you carry with you wherever no matter where you go.
