Happy Birthday Merle!!!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s giveaway contest!!!!! 🎂🎂
(Winner announced in stories)

Today is Merle’s actual birthday, and in celebration I’ve made a special coupon code. If you use HBDMerle at checkout on www.melissacmark.com you’ll receive 20% off all items in your cart! This will work for all items EXCEPT the Rainbow Heart Shell Necklaces that were highlighted in this year’s giveaway because I’m still donating $10 from the sale of each one of those special necklaces to NAMI MN through the end of March, and there are still some available!

HBDMerle is valid through midnight tomorrow, Friday 3/20, and you can use it twice per billing address. Feel free to share!

𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗗 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗮𝗹 & 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻/𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆!
It was no secret that Merle had a sweet tooth; multiple sweet tooths if I’m honest (yes, the plural is teeth, but tooths makes more sense to me in this sentence, so, go with it). If given a choice of desserts or afternoon treats, Dad wouldn’t choose. Instead, he would simply answer with one word. “Yes”.
Merle, would you like apple pie or cake? Yes.
Would you like chocolate or vanilla ice cream? Yes.

But Merle never liked to eat sweets alone; it always had to be a shared activity. If Dad had a cookie, he’d either have one for you, too, or split his in half. And if he DID bring one for you, it would be presented inside of a nicely folded, multiple napkined package.

I think the best part of these frequent treatings was the smile that would appear across his face as you peeled back the napkins to see what he brought for you. That small ritual of giving and receiving resulted in such joyful Merle smiles - honestly, they were sweeter than any cookie/cake/pie/bar/dessert imaginable.

𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗠 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗔𝗟 𝗡𝗨𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗜 This year I decided to go back to a basic, core Merle favorite… OREO COOKIES!
Dad loved Oreos, and the Happy Birthday ones with the sprinkles? Chef’s kiss. (If the winner needs gluten free ones, fret not – I’ll send the right ones to you)

𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡/𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗬 𝗡𝗨𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘
If you like Oreo cookies, how do you like to eat them? Do you take them apart? Do you have to have milk? Do you only like them in ice cream?
If you don’t like (or can’t eat) Oreo cookies, what sweet treat do you enjoy sharing with others?

𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗗 𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗬 – Comment below with your Oreo preferences or sweet treat sharing practices. 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱!

ALL entries for ALL questions from ALL platforms and emails will be due by MIDNIGHT on MARCH 18th. The winner will be chosen randomly on Merle’s birthday, MARCH 19th. GOOD LUCK!

MERLE'S BIRTHDAY GIVEAWAY 2026!⁣
Merle practiced medicine as a family doctor for over 50 years, and felt privileged (his words, not mine) to have cared for generations of families. Outside of the exam room, Merle was a fierce advocate in multiple spaces for the health and well-being of his community. Dad lobbied at the capital and supported local campaigns; he sat on community boards and volunteered time in community clinics; he rarely hesitated to step up and help out. ⁣

In that same spirit, and with the desire to support people experiencing the additive psychological stressors happening right now in Merle’s hometown I've added a donation as the second item in Merle’s Birthday Giveaway event this year. ⁣
In this ICY winter season where people are isolating themselves inside for safety, there has been an increased need for mental health support and anticipatory guidance. Generational trauma has to have a ground zero, and for many of our children, this is that moment. Founded in 1976, MN NAMI provides education, support and advocacy as a way to champion justice, dignity and respect for all individuals and families affected by mental illness.⁣

ITEM REVEAL No. 2 - During the month of March, I will donate $10 for every Rainbow Shell Heart Necklace sold (including the one in giveaway prize No. 1) in Merle's memory, up to a total of $100 to MN NAMI.⁣

QUESTION/ACTION ITEM No, 2 Think of a way to be of support to someone this week, and then follow through. It doesn’t have to be super involved, or anything that costs $$ (unless you want it to be). Your action could be as simple as texting someone to say “thinking about you and your dentist appointment today – YOU GOT THIS!” ⁣

FOR YOUR SECOND ENTRY - I don’t need to know WHAT the thing you’ve chosen is; it should stay private. But once you’ve completed your plan, comment below with a sunshine emoji or the word "sunshine", and I will register your entry for the giveaway! Only liking this post will NOT count (but it would be nice to do, and maybe share it too?) ⁣
THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK!!!⁣

𝗧𝗵𝗲 2026 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆!
Merle passed away in 2019, but I CONTINUE celebrating his birthdays with this fun contest. Now it has become an annual celebration of his spirit and ability to create JOY!
This year there are TWO prizes for the winner, and ONE donation to a local organization!

The first entry question is in this post. Entry questions 2 and 3 will be on FB & IG on the Mondays of March 9 and 16, and  also sent to the melissacmark.com email community. (Join the email list for another chance each week, by signing up via link in bio above)

You may enter once per platform/email, per question. All entries for all questions from all platforms and emails are due by MIDNIGHT on MARCH 18th. One winner will be randomly chosen on Merle’s birthday, MARCH 19th.

𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗭𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗔𝗟/𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗬 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗡𝗨𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗡𝗘
All of his life, Merle cared for everyone without strings attached, and in return he received back 1000-fold of what he gave. Here’s the thing though, he never held selfishly onto all that returned positivity. Instead, he somehow managed to alchemize it into something even bigger, sending everything right back out again to the world. It was a magical, colorful, and continuous loop of love and energy.

As a representation of his beautiful heart, I’ve chosen this  new, large Rainbow Abalone Shell Necklace to anchor 2026’s Giveaway. I only made TEN of these magical pieces, so if you are drawn to one before the winner is announced on March 19th, you can find them on melissacmark.com (link above in bio, too)
====================
Merle liked solving both number and word puzzles, so I think it’s fitting to make the first entry opportunity a puzzle.

Using only the letters from the word ABALONE, list three words of three letters or more. You may only use a letter once within the same word.

Comment below with your answer!

Why attend an Unwind & Rewire: Creating Jewelry with Intention Workshop? Well, if any moment in time could benefit from more empowerment and self agency, that time is 𝗡𝗢𝗪!⁣

Through guided journaling and small group instruction, workshop participants examine the limiting beliefs that no longer serve them, write statements that feel powerful and true, and learn to make jewelry that holds what they've discovered about themselves.People leave these classes acting lighter, sitting straighter, and feeling excited by what they’ve made and the meanings behind their creations. ⁣

There are two workshops coming up: February 18th at Moonstone Mpls in Longfellow, and April 15th at The Vine Room in Hopkins. ⁣

Well...

I was really looking forward to getting out and seeing folk this week at Modernwell’s Galentine Author Event, but sadly it was cancelled.

In double sadness, I had planned to donate a percentage of my sales during the event to local organizations, but No Event = No Sales.

And then I had an idea; I could collect monies for these organizations through online sales, instead!

Starting today through Feb 14th, I’ll donate 20% of the sale prices of all jewelry items purchased through melissacmark.com (including sale items) to Second Harvest Heartland and STEP (10% donation to each).

A change in plans, but not a change of intention.

Stay warm, be well, and THANK YOU in advance for your generosity and your support!
