Garnet is a group of silicate minerals used as gemstones and abrasives, known for coming in nearly every color, though deep red is most common, and symbolizing love, protection, and vitality; they are relatively hard (6.5-7.5 Mohs), form in metamorphic rocks, and include popular varieties like Almandine (red), Spessartine (orange), Demantoid (green), and Tsavorite (green).
Functions & Uses
Jewelry: Popular gemstones, especially the traditional red varieties, but also vibrant greens, oranges, and purples.
Abrasives: Used as a natural abrasive due to their hardness.
Industrial: Heavy garnets in sands are used for panning and separating minerals.

Pyrope: Deep red, often with brownish tints.
