In our Afternoon Explorers class we read “Leaf Man” by Lois Ehlert and then created our own leaf creatures. One child created a pontoon boat, another made a butterfly, and one made their own Leaf Man, flying around and eating hot peppers. We love how hard they worked: creating, designing, figuring out how to use shape punchers, and adding details with flair pens.

Our Afternoon Art Explorers (K-2nd grade) worked with cardboard and colorful glue today. Children were challenged to get pieces of cardboard to stand up and had to problem solve to get their visions to come to life.

Our Afternoon Art Explorers added more color and finishing touches to their block structures. One child added windows with children peeking out, another declared his sculpture is a kinetic sculpture because it moves, and a third said hers was a house to live in.

Children also spent time exploring more color mixing at the sensory stations we had open for them. So much fun! We still have some spaces left, if you’d like to sign your child up.

Halloween House Decorating: A Caregiver + Child Art Workshop

Get ready for a spooktacular afternoon of creativity! In this hands-on art experience, caregivers and children will work together to transform a wooden house into their very own Halloween masterpiece.

Just like decorating a gingerbread house—but with a Halloween twist! Families will paint their wooden house and bring it to life with fun, festive decorations inspired by the season: spooky, silly, sweet, or anything in between.

From haunted houses and friendly ghosts to pumpkins, spiders, and colorful candies, children can let their imaginations run wild while creating a one-of-a-kind Halloween decoration to take home and enjoy year after year.

What you’ll do:
🎨 Paint and decorate a wooden house
👻 Add themed Halloween embellishments
🕷️ Create a unique design together
🎃 Take home your finished Halloween house

When: Sunday, October 25th 4:00-5:30PM
Where: Backyartists Art Studio at 8 Medford Street, Arlington Center
Who: Children ages 8+ with a caregiver.

No artistic experience is needed—just come ready to create, get a little messy, and have some Halloween fun! *We will be using acrylic paints, so be sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy!
