☀️ Sun and Sea Summit 2026 🌊

We spent the day yesterday collaborating with 30 other art studio owners sharing ideas, getting creative, and spreading love!

We can’t wait to bring what we’ve learned back to the studio!

Our Sensory Fun (18 months to 5 years) Classes are now open for registration! Our Summer Sessions run July 7th through August 20th. We offer extra flexibility for our summer classes - we offer morning and afternoon classes and folks can register for as many as 7 weeks, or as few as 1 week. In past summers our classes have filled up quickly, so don’t wait to choose your weeks!

Please note that you are welcome to sign up for more than one class per week, but themes and projects change weekly.

Summer classes are non-refundable, but may be transferred to a friend.

Sensory Fun (18 mos to 5 years, with a caregiver)

We had a blast learning embroidery Friday night with the multi-talented Darci Hanna. Who knew this technique was thousands of years old? Apparently embroidery has been found on ancient animal pelts and fabric from Ancient Egypt. So cool!

Adult Evening Class: Intro to Embroidery
Friday, May 22nd 6-8pm
Backyartists Art Studio

In this beginner-friendly workshop, we will learn the principles of hand embroidery. We’ll practice basic stitches like stem stitch, lazy daisy, and french knots, which will allow you to create a wide range of designs. These can be used decoratively, to embellish and personalize fabrics, and for visible mending. Class participants will go home with their finished piece, along with their embroidery hoop and a needle.

We’ll supply light snacks and seltzers, but feel free to byob! Wine is welcome.

Darci is an interdisciplinary artist and curator based in Somerville, MA. With a background in art history and museum curation, her work incorporates historical to experimental printmaking, painting, and textile techniques.

The Wednesday Afternoon Art Explorers (K-2nd grade) tried a new technique for creating lines and designs. They placed a gem on their paper and pushed it around with a marker. It was fun to see where the gem would go and what types of squiggles would be made! Then, the group used watercolors to paint their designs and add color.
