My heart is broken , The Gourdie Shop was the longest continuous shop in Mentone Next year would have been our 40tb year in the Hitching Post … it was not just losing all of my inventory and one of a kind pieces of jewelry but my collection of Gourdies … Special ones I made for my mother and ones my children let me display from their childhood. I am so sorry the new people’s visions burned and the future joy they would have experienced . My dream was a reality that is no longer and I will cherish the sweet memories like so many of you who have worked along side of me at the Gourdies shop. Remembering Willie Nelson spending an hour in the shop , NBC National news featuring us on their nightly News and getting to be the CNN station break feature for a weekend standing in front of the Gourdie Shop on the Hitching Post sidewalk . It was also the location of the first licensed real estate company in Mentone . Mentone Realty . I met my beloved husband in the doorway of the Gourdie shop and he passed away a year and a half ago . The Gourdie Shop … I will miss you .

As many of you are finding out, the Hitching Post where we were located has burned down. It is a total loss. We are in shock right now. The Gourdie Shop was a staple in our sleepy little village. Until we know more we ask that you keep our town and its people in your thoughts and prayers.
