A wise woman once said that "life is too short not to sparkle" so I've been working on some wearably sparkly things. Didn't want to make things that could be seen from outer space - but sparkly enough to light up the wearer's face. Been working on a new idea - nice watches (stainless steel cases and water resistant) with chainmaille bands. The bands can be made any length, almost any color and in several different weaves, so they can really be customized. A few of them are now on the website. Thinking about doing some in team colors, but there are so many teams that it would probably have to be a special order.

Made this bracelet in royal blue (pictured here), black, red, purple, green, pink and black, etc. (all on the website). It's wide and looks solid but is as flexible as fabric. The rings are added one at a time (there are about 300 rings in each bracelet) so they're all articulated and move along with every movement of the wrist. I like this because it's a big look but it's very light and easy to wear. And I've never heard of anyone having an allergic reaction to aluminum, so metal sensitivities aren't a problem. I love making this chain maille weave. The repetitive motions of opening and closing all the rings becomes an almost Zen-like experience. One of these days I may get so caught up in the whole thing that I'll just keep going till the piece is 7 feet long.

I'm starting a new shop section - pearls and gemstones hand-knotted on silk. These will definitely fall into the category of "not your grandma's pearls." I'm always looking for an interesting new twist on the classics. This one is light, airy and easy to wear. Pearls are always appropriate, from casual to formal. You can't go wrong with pearls - especially as a gift.

I'm excited to be participating for the first time in a wonderful show next week - Gifts Galore & More (see the page for Gifts Galore & More + the website www.somersetgiftsgalore.com). This year the show will be held in 2 separate houses, a few blocks apart (it's been so successful in previous years they had to extend the show to a second house): one at the home and studio of Lynn Weinberg at 3275 Somerset Trace SE and the other at the home and studio of artist Avi Moyal at 3231 Turtle Lake Drive - both in the Somerset subdivision off Lower Roswell Road in Marietta, GA. The show will be held on Tuesday, October 1st from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, October 2nd from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be a host of delicious goodies for visitors to munch as they shop.

Some beautiful pieces (donated by the artists) will be raffled off every hour and an entire gift basket full of great stuff (also donations by the artists) will be raffled for those who visit the second house. That's where I'll be showing my jewelry - at Avi's house on Turtle Lake Drive - and I promise a 10% discount to anyone who buys more than one item.

I've made some interesting new pieces but haven't had time to photograph them, so they aren't even on the website yet. Anyone who comes to the show gets first dibs on the new designs!

Wasn't sure about the purple-lavender-black combination, but once i put it all together, I really liked the way it looked. I love knotting pearls on silk - this was an interesting variation...
