Icelandic jewelry designer, Jóhanna Methúsalemsdóttir, was born and raised in Reykjavík before emigrating to New York City at the end of the 1980’s. ría jewelry from its inception—a cyclic journey inspired by natural orders, cycles and the illusions they create. Relocating to the Catskill Mountains in 2018, she and her partner, artist Paul Weil, converted a small barn into a studio next to their home on the edge of the Catskill Forest Preserve where Kría jewelry is handmade by them with reclaimed precious metals. In 2019 they opened Kría World, their first retail store located at 801 Main Street in Margaretville, New York's historic Galli-Curci Theatre. It features a curated selection of Kría jewelry from a decades-worth of collections and some one-of-kind pieces surrounded by sustainable creativity from artisans that inspire them and is open Wednesdays through Sundays. Kría jewelry has been nominated for the Icelandic Cultural Award, included in the Nordic Fashion Biennale, exhibited in museums internationally as part of The Weather Diaries exhibition, featured in award-winning television shows including Search Party, Schitt's Creek, and The Minister, and has been featured in Elle, Visionaire, InStyle, The New York Times, Purple, and Another Magazine among others.
