The founder of CADILLAC and LINCOLN was Henry Martyn Leland (1843-1932). Over 200 important pieces from his personal estate will be offered at Jackson's International Auction's April 28, 2026 event. Lots will include a vast multitude of photographs, including production photographs, instruction manuals, a ledger, an interesting Lincoln Bowling Club W.C. Leland Trophy, circa 1918-1920, and other related materials, including a cased set of 95 glass slide measuring 3.25 x 4 inches each, and depicting various stages of Leland's life contained in a custom-made case 12.25 x 9 x 5 inches.

One lot features a very large, historical American sterling loving cup with dedicatory inscription “HENRY M. LELAND / WE WANT YOU EVERY WINTER / YOUR FLORIDA CADILLAC BOYS / APRIL 3RD 1916.”

Leland was a well-known collector of objects related to Abraham Lincoln, and the Lincoln bust that is offered was one of his prized pieces. Did you know he chose his brand name LINCOLN because of his admiration for the President?

Rare CDV Portrait of "Stonewall" Jackson as a Brevet Major in the U.S. Army, from an 1851 From-Life Daguerreotype

A very rare CDV image of Thomas J. Jackson produced early in the Civil War by photographer Edward Anthony of New York. Anthony and other studios would produce thousands of another version of this image, in which an artist skillfully modified Jackson’s appearance to clothe him in the uniform of a Confederate general. The version offered here, however, was made from the original from-life daguerreotype portrait Jackson sat for in New York as a brevet major in the U.S. Army in 1851, likely for Mathew Brady. Note that the Confederate collar stars from the more familiar stylized version are missing and that the major’s oak leaf rank insignia can be seen on his shoulder. At the base of the mount, Jackson is described using his Confederate rank as “Brig. Gen. ‘Stonewall’ Jackson.” Both the from-life and the artistically stylized version were produced to meet the demand of an anxious northern public, interested in owning portraits of famous figures they read about in the news. However, the stylized version was produced in great numbers.

The Winter 2026 edition of includes my article about Wisconsin Sharpshooter Henry Lye. Utilizing original letters and portrait photographs, I follow both Lye's changing appearance and his perspective toward war as they evolve through the two years of his Civil War service, from volunteering in 1861 to his death at the Battle of Gettysburg.
