My favorite natural diamond story is one I’m lucky enough to call my own. This storied diamond has rested on my ring finger for nearly 16 years, never taken off, worn day after day. It is the diamond in my engagement ring, and yes, I designed it myself, occupational hazard.
It was originally the center of a Maharajah’s turban in the 1920s, which that alone had captivated me. The diamond is slightly flawed with a vein on one side that I adore, nature subtly revealing its beauty. The setting sits diagonally on my finger, a style I had never seen at the time, though it has since become quite popular.
The diamond is held by swirling vines and tapered leaves that form the band, anchoring the design seamlessly. The off kilter asymmetry of the ring is at the heart of what I love in jewelry, something still evident in all ONDYN creations. This ring was the beginning of my fascination with clever nuances in jewelry. Just like the perfect inconsistencies in nature.
And that is the beauty of a natural diamond, its story began long before it found you.
