📞 Not Sure What You Have? Let's Talk.
Many clients simply need a knowledgeable professional to help them understand their jewelry, gemstones, diamonds, watches, collections, or mining assets.
Through a telephone call, Zoom, WhatsApp, or FaceTime consultation, I can help you:
✅ Understand what you own
✅ Identify what may or may not have value
✅ Review existing appraisals and reports
✅ Determine whether additional testing may be needed
✅ Discuss insurance requirements and coverage considerations
✅ Evaluate collections before selling, donating, or dividing assets
✅ Help identify missing documentation or potential issues
Sometimes a simple conversation can provide valuable direction before you invest time and money into further evaluation or documentation.
Whether you have a single gemstone, a jewelry collection, a rough gemstone parcel, a mining claim, or inherited assets, I am available to help clients worldwide understand and confidently document their assets.

💛 “If you don’t love yourself first… is it really love you’re giving others?”
It’s a hard truth—but an important one.
You cannot truly pour into others if your own cup is empty.
Self-love isn’t selfish—it’s foundational.
It’s how you care for your mind, your body, and how you speak to yourself when no one is listening.
You can be ambitious.
You can be driven.
And you can still be kind to yourself.
Love, truth, respect, and gratitude all start within.
When you choose to become more loving toward yourself, everything begins to shift—
your mindset, your energy, your life.
And that love?
It naturally flows outward—to others, to the world, to everything around you.
You can’t fake it.
But when it’s real… it changes everything.

Let me introduce myself clearly.
I’m Deborah Villepigue, and my work in appraisals and business consulting is guided by one unwavering principle: expertise matters.
I do not believe in “general anything” when the work requires precision, knowledge, judgment, and real-world experience. I believe in specialists — professionals who have dedicated themselves to mastering their craft and delivering the highest level of value through true expertise.
That is how I work, and that is the standard I uphold.
In both appraisals and business consulting, the right outcome is never accidental. It comes from aligning with the right people — individuals who bring depth, credibility, discipline, and excellence to the table. I seek out experts in their specific fields, and if I cannot find the right expert right away, I will wait until I do.
Because I do not settle.
And neither should you.
I believe that standards matter. Precision matters. Reputation matters. And the people you trust with important decisions matter more than most realize.
My approach is simple:

Depth over shortcuts
Expertise over generalization
Excellence over compromise
Quality over convenience

I am here to connect with professionals who understand that true value is built through knowledge, integrity, and specialization — not surface-level skill, rushed decisions, or “good enough.”
If you believe in raising standards, protecting outcomes, and working with real experts, we will understand each other very well.

⚠️ The Truth About Jewelry Appraisals That Many People Don't Learn Until It's Too Late
If you walk into a jewelry store and someone offers you a jewelry appraisal, do not be afraid to ask them:
"Can I please see your qualifications and diplomas?"
There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for proof.
In fact, you should ask.
Professional appraisers should never be offended when a client asks to see their credentials. If someone claims to be qualified, they should have no problem showing you their diplomas, certificates, professional education, and appraisal credentials.
Do not simply accept a verbal answer.
Ask to see the proof with your own eyes.
The certificates on my walls are visible to clients. My qualifications are not hidden. When I testify in court, I present my qualifications to the judges. Attorneys review my credentials. Insurance companies review my qualifications. My education, training, and experience are documented and available for examination.
That's exactly how it should be.
🚨 Here's What Should Concern You
Many people hear someone say:
"I'm a Graduate Gemologist."
While earning a Graduate Gemologist designation requires significant education and commitment, a Graduate Gemologist is not automatically an appraiser.
A gemologist is trained to identify and evaluate gemstones.
A gemologist identifies gems.
A gemology diploma alone does not make someone an expert appraiser.
A gemology diploma alone does not make someone qualified to prepare appraisal reports for insurance claims, legal matters, estates, litigation, or court proceedings.
These are separate disciplines.
Appraising requires additional education, training, experience, report writing skills, market research knowledge, valuation methodology, legal awareness, and professional responsibility.
Simply put:
✅ A gemologist identifies gemstones.
✅ An appraiser develops supported opinions of value.
✅ An expert appraiser combines extensive appraisal education, experience, documentation skills, and professional knowledge.
These are not the same things.
🎭 The Scary Part Isn't Today
The scary part isn't that bad documentation hurts you today.
The scary part is what happens years later.
You experience a theft.
Your ring is lost.
A diamond falls out.
A fire occurs.
A flood damages your jewelry.
Now you contact your insurance company.
That's when your appraisal is examined.
That's when questions may arise.
That's when unsupported values, incorrect descriptions, missing information, inadequate documentation, or work performed by unqualified individuals may become a serious problem.
Imagine hearing:
"We're having difficulty supporting this claim."
"This documentation doesn't meet our requirements."
"The appraisal lacks necessary details."
"The qualifications of the preparer are being questioned."
That is a terrible conversation to have after you've already suffered a loss.
Nothing Is Free
I have learned an important lesson throughout my life.
There were times when I hired people because they were cheaper.
There were times when I trusted someone because they claimed to be an expert.
Unfortunately, some of those decisions ended up costing me more money later.
Today, I understand something very simple:
You generally get what you pay for.
When someone offers "free" expert services, ask yourself why.
Professional legal-quality documentation takes time.
Expert analysis takes time.
Research takes time.
Experience takes decades to build.
If something is free, you owe it to yourself to question what you are actually receiving.
Protect Yourself
Before hiring any appraiser, ask:
✅ Can I see your diplomas and credentials?
✅ What appraisal-specific education have you completed?
✅ How many years have you been appraising?
✅ Have you testified in court?
✅ Do insurance companies recognize your work?
✅ Will you be available to assist me if I need help later?
✅ Can you document your qualifications, not just talk about them?
Don't be shy.
Don't feel embarrassed.
Don't worry about hurting someone's feelings.
A true professional will respect your questions.
A true professional will welcome the opportunity to show you their qualifications.
A true professional understands that trust should be earned—not assumed.
My Promise
I do not want to see anyone hurt because they relied on inadequate documentation or someone who overstated their qualifications.
My mission has never been simply to write appraisal reports.
My mission is to protect my clients.
I stand behind my clients 100%.
If one of my clients experiences a loss, needs assistance with a claim, or requires expert support years later, I am there to help.
The documentation I prepare reflects decades of experience, extensive qualifications, and a commitment to doing the job correctly the first time.
That protection may not seem important today.
But when something goes wrong tomorrow, that's when expertise matters most.
Stay safe this Fourth of July, enjoy your family and friends, and remember:
Never be afraid to ask an appraiser to prove their qualifications.
Your jewelry deserves protection.
Your insurance deserves proper documentation.
And you deserve an expert whose education, experience, and credentials can be verified—not just claimed.
🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July and stay safe!

🌎 Wherever I Travel, My Clients Have Access to a Global Network of Expertise
Over the course of my career, I've learned an important lesson: no one person can do it all.
The jewelry, gemological, geological, forensic, mining, manufacturing, and appraisal industries are incredibly complex. From exploration and mining to cutting, polishing, manufacturing, laboratory analysis, valuation, and legal support, each specialty requires years—often decades—of dedicated experience.
What gives me confidence when taking on challenging assignments around the world is knowing that I am surrounded by an extraordinary network of colleagues. These are not just professional contacts—they are trusted friends, mentors, and industry leaders whom I consider family. Many are actively involved in mining operations, gemstone cutting and polishing, laboratory research, manufacturing, advanced gemological analysis, and other specialized areas throughout the world.
I have spent a lifetime building these relationships, collaborating with some of the highest levels of expertise our industry has to offer. When a client works with me, they are not relying on a single expert. They gain access to a worldwide network of respected professionals whose collective knowledge helps ensure the most informed and accurate conclusions possible.
The greatest strength of any professional is knowing when to call upon the right specialist. That is not a limitation—it is a commitment to excellence.
No matter where you are located, rely on me to bring together the right people, the right resources, and the right expertise for your unique situation. My role is to connect the pieces, coordinate the knowledge, and deliver results that serve the client's best interests.
Because the best answers don't come from one person—they come from the combined wisdom of a trusted global team.

🔮 It is NOT just education.
⚒️ It is NOT just experience.

💠 It is the combination of BOTH that makes a true expert.

KNOW THAT.

I’m Deborah A. Villepigue, GG, ACGA, RMV, APPA, CGA, ICGA — CEO of The Jewelry Appraiser, Inc., Forensic Gemologist, Geologist, and Independent Appraiser.

I have been in the jewelry, gemstone, mineral, appraisal, forensic, estate, legal, and insurance world since 1986. I have spent decades studying, testing, identifying, valuing, teaching, traveling, examining, and protecting people through accurate jewelry and gemstone documentation.

This is not guesswork.

This is professional expertise backed by education, field work, laboratory work, global experience, and real life.

💎 HOW I HELP MY CLIENTS

You do not always have to come to me.

I can help you by:

🟣 WhatsApp
🟡 Zoom
🔷 FaceTime
🟢 Private video consultation
💎 In-person appointment at our New York flagship office
🧭 On-site visits to estates, vaults, collections, legal locations, or even mine/source locations when the jewelry or gemstone material cannot come to me

If needed, I can be on a call with you, do a visual review, guide you, and in many cases complete the work within a day depending on the scope.

Consultations may be one hour or longer depending on what you need.

I help with:

💍 Diamonds
💎 Colored gemstones
👑 Fine jewelry
🕰️ Antique and estate jewelry
🟣 Costume jewelry
🪨 Mineral specimens
⛏️ Rough gemstone material
📄 Insurance documentation
⚖️ Legal and estate matters
🔥 Damage, loss, or post-loss questions
🧬 Forensic identification support
🎁 Donation appraisals and documentation

🚨 PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH “FREE APPRAISALS”

A true expert charges for professional work.

Why?

Because education matters.
Experience matters.
Independence matters.
Liability matters.
Accuracy matters.

You do not expect a lawyer, doctor, scientist, or true specialist to work for free without a reason.

If someone offers “free” appraisals, ask yourself:

What are they getting out of it?
Are they trying to buy the item?
Is there a conflict of interest?
Are they protecting YOU — or themselves?

A “free” opinion can cost you far more than a professional appraisal.

🌿 BUT THERE IS AN IMPORTANT EXCEPTION: PRO BONO WORK

When a client is donating jewelry, gemstones, costume pieces, or related property to help others, I may help at no cost within specific parameters.

That is how I give back.

If your donation is legitimate, charitable, and meant to help people, I am willing to help YOU do it correctly.

That may include proper identification, valuation support, and documentation that your CPA or tax professional can use with IRS charitable donation paperwork.

The process may involve a qualified appraisal, charity acknowledgment, IRS Form 8283, and supporting records depending on the value and circumstances.

💫 Generosity deserves proper documentation.

Your donation should help others — and protect you.

If you are unsure what you have…
If you inherited jewelry…
If you need insurance documentation…
If you are donating jewelry…
If you have estate pieces…
If you have gemstones, minerals, or jewelry that cannot be moved…

Call me.

You need truth.
You need speed.
You need discretion.
You need someone with BOTH education AND experience.
