Riding on my scooter the other day I thought to myself... I wish there were a phone charger on this thing. Soon I got lost in the thoughts of redesigning my cell phone to operate on solar power and eliminate the messy cords and adapters in my life.
But then I read this! Beyond watches, what if your phone charged just by being in your pocket? Yeah!

A crowdfunded startup is taking the smart watch to a new level with the invention and imminent commercial launch of the first such device to be powered entirely by a person’s body heat.

Designing for NASA. The Seattle based design firm, Invisible Creature, knocked this project out of the park.
Reminiscent of vintage travel posters, these future travel posters make visiting Mars seem as simple as a trip to Disneyland.
Lets hope NASA can sell enough posters to fund passenger trips to Mars... But, as of now they are giving the artwork away for free on the JPL website.

This animated short film, I Met the Walrus, was nominated for an Oscar in 2008. It's a stunning example of typography and illustration flowing seamlessly together.
With delightful scribbling by James Braithwaite, and computer animation by Alex Kurina, this film is a true inspiration and an example of how creative minds can convey powerful messages in whimsical ways.

When we think of Surrealism, we think of artists such as Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte, Max Ernst, Joan Miro and Man Ray. But do we recognize this style when its used in Advertising?

Ogilvy & Mather New York and Ars Thanea Studio created these great visuals for a campaign about food and science. For Dupont Nutrition & Health, they created mysterious pathways into food to illustrate the influence of science on the taste of food.

Innovative design. Can this be called a book? Julie Stephen Chheng’s The Adventures of a Village is an adventure experience that places the responsibility of the narrative in the hands of the reader. Using playful illustrations and clever origami, the story literally unfolds as the pages turn into and out of each other.
More information on the book can be found here: http://www.aventures-dun-village.com/

New design. Fashion week in New York unveils a stunning 3D printed dress that gets people talking. This dress is the Verlan Dress, designed in the New Skins: Computational Design for Fashion workshop led by designer Francis Bitonti. You can download the pattern here:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:146293, and assemble the 59 3D-printed pieces with epoxy. This intricate dress looks more like an exoskeleton than an evening gown, but maybe technology will shift fashion as we know it.

Great re-design. Did you know that the new Twitter logo is made up of 13 circles? This bird is even further simplified than their previous logo. Even if we can not see the circles which construct this design, we know they are there, because every line and every swoop is answered by a responding line or swoop. Well organized and balanced, this new Twitter bird is taking flight. As the Twitter developers describe it: "a bird in flight is the ultimate representation of freedom, hope and limitless possibility."
