The Thisvi Trilogy
On this anniversary of The Septemvriana, the horrific pogrom against the Greeks and other minorities in Istanbul, Turkey, we finally release the authorized version of a film very dear to us.
Most of the photographs in the film were shot by my father, Haralambos Lellios. All three shorts Oscar-qualified in the Live Action Short Film category.
This was not an easy one to make. But an important one for me as members of my family, including my mother, Eleutheria Karayianni, lived through those harrowing days and nights in 1955.
Grateful to so many for making this a reality, including my brother and Producer, George Lellios; Producer, George Pelecanos; Editor, Nasos Gatzoulis; and the three leads, Marianna Polychrinidi, Georgia Zoi and Dimitra Banti.
For a detailed and well-researched tome on The Septemvriana "The Mechanism of Catastrophe" by Speros Vryonis, Jr. is an important read; for us not to forget our past, to understand a significant reason for the decimation of a once-thriving Greek people in their homeland of Turkey...
