Introduced in 1999 as one of the first serially produced, manually wound, in-house chronographs from any premier watchmaking house, this reference established Lange’s reputation while changing what the rest of the industry thought was possible.

The first series is the one collectors want. The 39mm case without a power reserve indicator keeps the dial cleaner and more resolved than what followed, and the Calibre L951.1 beneath it remains one of the most admired movements ever put into a wristwatch. Flyback function, an instantly jumping minutes counter, Glashütte stripe finishing, and a hand-engraved balance c**k. Everything that made the Datograph matter, in the configuration it was born in.

Sold and authenticated by Bezel: Rolex’s Datejust 36 in Everose Rolesor with a factory diamond-set black sunburst dial. Rolex has their own name for two-tone and their own proprietary rose gold alloy, and on this configuration both earn their place.

The factory diamond hour markers are the detail that completes it. On a dial this dark, they read less like an upgrade and more like the only logical choice. Rolesor has been part of the Datejust’s identity since 1948, and this is one of the more considered expressions of what that combination can look like.
