I got to see the finished product of the lengthy restoration of this clock in 2024. If I remember correctly, the large gear you see them manipulating with an engine hoist weighs 1,600 pounds!

After 99 years making clocks and furniture, Howard Miller is going out of business. Tariffs are part of the reason, and I'm sure a soft market for new clocks, be they grandfather, wall or just decor clocks, is a contributing factor. In any case, it's a shame. I watched this sort of frame-by-frame. I first wanted to identify the clock. I believe it is a Seth Thomas "Hallie" model, c. 1909, so the clock would have been more that 20 years old. There are some differences, though. My guess is the prop department wanted it to look less deluxe, so they removed the side ornaments and ornamental feet. This is supported by the fact that the back of the clock looks like it's been painted gloss black -- they didn't do that at the factory. Another interesting observation is the on-again, off-again disappearance of the far left column. This scene obviously required a few takes. The faux marble columns were actually celluloid tubes. It looks like Stan may have dislodged that column with his thumb when he replaced it on the mantel after it fell. As he brought it up, 6 columns, after he re-hung the trousers, 5 columns. Fun to see, though.
