The obsolete diamond tester: Can your diamond tester really tell the difference between a natural diamond and a lab-grown diamond?
In this video, I put that question to the test by comparing a natural diamond and a lab-grown diamond using a Presidium diamond tester—one of the most common diamond testers found in jewelry stores.
The result? Both diamonds test as genuine diamonds.
That’s because the Presidium tester measures thermal conductivity, and both natural and lab-grown diamonds conduct heat the same way. While this technology was once useful, it is no longer capable of distinguishing between natural and lab-grown diamonds, making it obsolete for that purpose.
To accurately identify the difference, I demonstrate the JTR Reveal 2S, a modern diamond screening instrument designed to separate natural diamonds from lab-grown diamonds using advanced detection technology.
