Korte Jewelry Designs

Korte Jewelry Designs I create one of a kind jewelry, using a combination of engraving and chasing/repousse. I love the process of bringing an image within the metal to the surface.

In 2017, I discovered chasing and repousse, an ancient forming and sculpting process using small tools and a hammer, and never looked back. I was lucky to study with two of the top chasing experts in the world, Liza Nechamkin and Davide Bigazzi, and am constantly looking for opportunities to learn more. This is a laborious technique, with thousands upon thousands of hammer strikes for each image,

but each piece is truly a labor of love. No machines, molds or stamps are used in the process, as each piece is created freehand from a flat sheet of sterling silver. Always striving to learn and better myself, I began a jewelry apprentice program through Jewellery Training Solutions in early 2020 and completed it in the fall of 2021. This program focuses on traditional jewelry-making and stone setting skills, and prepares one for a job in the commercial jewelry industry. I have also devoted much time to the study of engraving, and am enjoying incorporating this into my work as it allows me to use a similar sculpting process but on a very small scale.

There are times when self-care has to become a priority. Unfortunately, we can't always (or choose not to) take the time we need. It's been quite a ride these past few years, and I am at a point where I need to stop and regroup. I have one more show this year, October 8-9 in Bethesda, MD. Then it's off to Florence, Italy for 10 days to see the sights and work with a goldsmith there. I can't wait!

Meanwhile, I've made the decision that I'm not going to be making new pieces to sell for a while. I have all of my current work up on my website, and I am going to be having some upcoming sales on Instagram/Facebook with some of my older work. As always, I'm available to work on custom orders.

But I need to take time to just practice, learn and rediscover the joy. There's some new techniques I'm working on that I'm super excited about! Follow along this process in my blog (on my website)! And just look at these awesome tools (including the adorable hammer) my son made for me as I embark on this new adventure!

I absolutely love to hear from my customers about how happy they are with their piece! It always makes my day. ❀️ Especially when they send photos! It feels so good to make something for someone that you know they will treasure. A recent customer shared this with me:

Loving my necklace! I can't express how thankful I am for your compassion, kindness, and patience through this process.πŸ’™

While the focus of my work is chasing and repousse, I welcome custom orders and the challenges they often bring. This customer wanted a memorial pendant for her beloved dog who recently passed away, the trickiest part being she wanted to be able to add ashes to the pendant at home. I'm thrilled with how this piece turned out, and I was even able to make her a little funnel and screwdriver to help in filling the pendant. The beautiful Swiss blue topaz is a pretty close match to her dog's beautiful eyes. ❀️

On the bench today..... using chasing and repousse to make earrings and a pendant that will be added to my Apheleia Collection. Also working on a super special custom order that I'm excited about, but I have to wait to share that one!

And now for something a little different... A couple of weeks ago some of my family traveled down to North Carolina to visit my son, who has been spending the summer as a whitewater rafting guide at Nantahala Outdoor Center. He took us down the French Broad River, and it was awesome!!! The water was high, and we all had an absolute blast.

Good morning! I'm back and starting to recover from the show. Always takes a couple of days! I don't have any more shows until October, but I do have more travel ahead to see family. Meanwhile, here are a few new pieces. 😁 Not on my website quite yet, but they will be by the end of the week.

Last day of the show on Bestor Plaza in the Chautauqua Institute. Another gorgeous day, and the gates are open to the public. One of the new pieces I brought is this beautiful sunflower pendant. Engraved on the side is: Face the sun - Turn your back on the shadow. Not available on my website quite yet, but I'll have it up later this week after I get back from the show.

I've had this idea floating in my head for a couple of months now, and finally had time to get back to my bench to work on it. Pretty happy with the way it turned out, and can't wait to continue work on this collection! (I put a video in the comments showing the full quote) First up, though, is a quick family vacation to North Carolina to visit our son working down there! πŸš™β›ΊπŸŽ‰
