Things have changed a little since my daughter Dyan made the last post.
In 1970, my mother Laura, who some of you might even remember, started selling beads and jewelry she made at the San Jose Flea Market. Around 1975, she opened a store in Northern CA. In 2006, failing health forced her to close and come to Utah, to live with me (Cathy). I then reopened her store. But by the end of 2012, both the economy and my mother's health were failing and we had to close. Mom passed away in 2014.
The remainder of our unsold merchandise had been in storage (@ $100 per month) until I moved to Riverdale and discovered the Riverdale Motor-Vu Swap Meet where the little shops rent for $100 a month. It was a 'no-brainer' to bring the stored beads here to Riverdale.
The plan was that Dyan would take over. Her grandmother started in a swap meet and coming full circle, she would start the business over again. But having a family to support, no working capital and no other income to supplement us until she got it going, we both had to take full time jobs elsewhere. Since our new jobs will have us both working off and on, on weekends, it looks like we're going to have to leave the bead business permanently.
This is sad news for us, but good news for those of you who were our awesomely loyal bead customers and have remained our Facebook friends here. From now until the end of this summer we're selling out. Most things are priced even less than what we orginally paid wholesale, can never be purchased again, or found anywhere else at a lower price.
Most of the beads and charms are priced, mix and match, as many as you can squeeze into a 3"x3" zip lock bag, for $1. Strands of glass beads, still marked at $6 - $10, are now $2. Lots more are only $1. The gemstones are 50% - 75% off the old retail prices.
We will be open from 7:30 AM until noon, every Saturday and Sunday at the Riverdale Motor-Vu Drive-in until we're sold out, hopefully by September. If you have any questions, message or post here.
Hope to see you soon.
