Influential clock maker: Gustav Eduard Becker
Gustav Eduard Becker (1819–1885) was a renowned German clockmaker and founder of the prestigious Gustav Becker clock brand. Known for producing high-quality "Vienna Regulator" style clocks, his company became one of the most successful clock manufacturers in Europe during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
- Born in Oels, Silesia, Becker trained in Germany and Austria before establishing his own workshop in Freiburg, Silesia (now Świebodzice, Poland) in 1847.
- He gained international fame after winning a gold medal at the 1852 Silesian Industrial Exhibition for the exceptional precision of his clocks.
- By 1875, his factory had reached a peak of over 300,000 clock orders annually.
- Merger and Legacy: Following his death in 1885, the company continued to thrive until it merged with Junghans in 1930. Production under the Becker name eventually ceased in the mid-1930s
