Lafayette Garden Club held its September Meeting at the Ira Nelson Horticulture Center. President, Becky Lege, presided over the meeting. Elisa Tubbs and Leigh Prather, members of the West Baton Rouge Garden Club, presented "Geaux Native: How to Obtain Louisiana Certified Habitat Status". Roxanna Ch*****ne gave the Horticulture Report on Senna and followed with the Horticulture Study of specimens brought in by members. Mary Louise Lamm gave a powerpoint presentation on North American Cardinals and Cecille Revels discussed her design, a Creative Design study. Linda Beyt talked about the District III Meeting to be held in October and reported on the Youth Horticuture School Gardens at Holy Family Catholic School. Numerous committee chairs gave updates on the works of their committees.
Roxanna created a presentation board illustrating Table Designs, the theme of the LGC spring flower show. The Social Hostesses provided an array of delicious bites for members. The snapdragon orders will be delivered at the October meeting. LGC is a member of District III of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc, Deep South Garden Clubs Inc and National Garden Clubs Inc.

Hurricane lilies get their name because they bloom during the peak of hurricane season. They're often red, but some varieties produce white, pink or yellow flowers.

This heirloom plant is a southern favorite and a relative of the red amaryllis.

Consider ornamental peppers if you want to add some fall color into your landscape.

These Louisiana Super Plants are great bedding and container plants and can tolerate Louisiana's heat. Some favorite varieties from the LSU AgCenter are Black Hawk Hybrid, Hot Pops Purple and Midnight Fire and edible ornamental peppers Mad Hatter and Candy Cane Red.

The Foundation for Wellness Clinic has been honored as recipient of the September 2026 Civic Pride Award. They recently moved to their new location at 126 Heymann Boulevard in the Oil Center although the nonprofit has been operating since 1980. The simplicity of the one story building called for a row of dwarf shrubs lining the façade of the outside walls with interest offered by using different varieties. Toby Daigle with Acadiana Landscape Materials also embellished the entrance with rounded beds that provided the pop with mixed color blooms of Penta.
