The Wicked Stitch

The Wicked Stitch The Wicked Stitch features handcrafted jewelry and accessories that celebrate a combination of the old with the new.

Tatting is a method of lace-making that has been around for centuries. I strive to use this ages old art, to create new, up-to-date, and timeless designs. Often you will find that some pieces are listed as one-of-a-kind. This usually indicates that some of the components include vintage pieces that I have rescued and given a chance at a new life.

I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Since this lovely necklace has now been gifted to it's new owner, I wanted to share a picture of it. It is tatted in ecru perle cotton and features beautiful Tiger's Eye beads.

The last photo for today is a pendant created from Dark Wedgewood Blue Egyptian Cotton. The tatting surrounds a 13x22mm teardrop shell bead, topped with a 4mm round shell accent. I have shown it on an 18 inch sliver-tone chain with lobster claw clasp. The pendant is available separately for $16. $22 with the chain included. (I apologize for the slight blurriness of the photo. This was a particularly difficult piece to photograph, to try and capture the beautiful colors in the teardrop.)

The next piece I want to show you is a necklace I made originally as a gift for someone special. I am already working on a second one for a special order. I kept the frills to a minimum on this one, as I wanted to highlight the colors of the beautiful stones. The 17" necklace is tatted in Ecru pearl cotton around 8mm fancy jasper stone beads with a toggle clasp closure. I love the slightly bohemian look of this piece! Available to order $50. Please note that colors may vary a bit due to the natural stones used.

One new battery charger for my camera + a new hard drive for my computer = new photos! I have been playing around with a different technique of tatting called Ankars. It is very popular in European and Asian tatting. For some reason, however, here in the US the technique must be considered a closely guarded secret. I had to watch videos in Portuguese to learn how it is done lol. I love the layered look that is achieved with rings of different sizes stacked over top of each other. The design of this pair of earrings is the result of my experimentation. I am quite pleased! They are tatted in a rich brown pearl cotton, with copper-tone metallic beads and French hooks. They measure approximately 1 1/4 inches long, and 1 1/4 inches wide. They are currently available for sale for $15.

It has been far too long since I have posted! The charger for my camera died, so I am awaiting the arrival of my new one. I have some wonderful new pieces that I am going to be posting as soon as I can get them photographed :) Hopefully that will be within the next few days. Until then, here is an older photo of a piece shown in my cover photo that is still available. It is tatted with Teal Egyptian cotton, and has wooden accent beads. I can also make this design in other colors and accents. Just message me :)

This is the necklace that will be worn by Jane to next weekend's wedding. I am so happy with how this one turned out, I'm tempted to make a second one to keep for myself ;) Later I hope to post a picture of the matching earrings.

I am extremely excited to be sending this piece off to it's new home. I designed this specifically for Abbi, who will be wearing it for her upcoming wedding. Best wishes to you, Abbi!

Now that summer craziness has subsided a bit, I am finally able to return my focus to business matters :) I will be posting (hopefully) regularly with new pieces, projects in the works, and general nonsense that pops into my brain. You have been warned!
