Lloyd Buell Studio

Lloyd Buell Studio Bio of the Artist Lloyd Buell has spent a lifetime as an artist exploring every facet of visual design.

His approach has been unique, seeking out individual masters of their craft and apprenticing them. He learned the art of the Native American silver smith and jewelry design from Yaqui jeweler and teacher David Fierro. He studied illustrations with the artists of the Southern Californis Beaux Arts movement of the 60's and 70's, artists like Rick Griffin, Jim Evans, Rye Timberlake and Bill Ogden. Fo

r the last fifteen years Lloyd has regularly sojourned Japan studying variety of arts: classical Buddha carving techniques, "Noh" theatre, calligraphy and Tea ceremony, as well as the artchitecture and construction techniques of traditional Japanese design. This has given his work a characteristically clean aesthetic an natural grace and movement. His recent studies of painting and block printing under Dan Kelly in Kyoto, Japan influences his current work. He feels blessed to call the island of Maui home since 1984, and in all his mediums he is inspired by the beauty and aloha of the spirit of Hawaii.
