Fun with Flags! World Cup Edition
The World Cup is less than 50 days away! We are going to share some fun facts about the flags of all the countries involved, this week is Group G.
Belgium: The design was inspired by the French tricolor, was adopted in 1831. The black, yellow and red colors are characteristic of Brabant province - Brabant rebels wore these colors during the uprising against Austria in the late 18th century.
Egypt: The flag bears Egypt's national emblem, the Egyptian eagle of Saladin, which in itself reflects a much older origin in Egyptian history, as it represents the Egyptian vulture that is found in ancient hieroglyphs
Iran: The Takbir (an Arabic phrase) is repeated 11 times along the edges of the green and red bands respectively, for a total of 22 times.
New Zealand: The flag of New Zealand uses two prominent symbols, the Union Jack and the Southern Cross. The Southern Cross constellation is one of the striking features of the Southern Hemisphere sky, and has been used to represent many southern hemisphere colonies.
