This crystal is also commonly referred to as Tasmanite, due to some of the very first known pieces coming out of Tasmania. The Atlantisite that comes out of South Africa is designated “Stichtite-Serpentine”, but is no different than Tasmanite or Atlantisite. This mineral color ranges from a very pale green to dark ivy green with purple spots of Stichtite throughout. Atlantisite is on the rarer side of gems and is one of the most powerful forms of Serpentine, next to Infinite.”

Like all types of Amethyst, Black Galaxy Amethyst is a variety of quartz, meaning it is a silica based crystal, with hematite and iron inclusions in the Amethyst. In some cases, Black Galaxy Amethyst appears black at first glance, but it can also be a very dark purple or even carry a violet undertone in the black, rather than being just a matte black. Rare, Black Amethyst derives its colouring and properties from the fact that it contains a much higher count of iron inclusions than most other crystals. It is the iron that makes the stone appear dark grey/black.”

“Verdite, known as Green Stone of Africa, is a semi-precious stone over 3500 million years old and is only found in southern Africa amongst some of the oldest rocks in the world. It is a Serpentine [and fuchsite] mineral; Verdite can be yellowish-green, bluish-green or brownish. It often has spots or a swirled appearance. The green color of verdite may appear bright or dull, depending on the chromium content. Verdite was originally found in Barberton district of South Africa, where gold was first found. **It is said that South African Verdite is no more available as the resource is depleted, and there is only one known deposit so the source of Verdite is quickly diminishing.** This rare mineral vein - stretching from Barberton in the northern part of South Africa to the untamed wilds of Zimbabwe - captures the mystery and beauty of an ancient part of Africa. Native South Africans saw value in the softness of the stone and were able to carve the stone for use in ornamental creations and amulets.”

“Howlite, also known as Magnesite, is a calcium borosilicate hydroxide mineral that crystallizes in the form of masses, nodules and occasional small prismatic crystals. It's commonly found with a color scheme consisting of chalky white with black veins running throughout. However it can also be seen as brown or even colorless. Howlite was first discovered in 1868 near the town of Windsor, Nova Scotia. Henry How (famed Canadian chemist and geologist) was alerted of an odd mineral that had occurred in a gypsum mine close to his office at nearby King’s College. He investigated this unusual crystal and determined it to be a completely new mineral. He originally named it “silicoborocalcite”, a reference to it’s believed chemical structure at the time. After his death, it was later renamed in his honor by James Dwight Dana (famed American geologist and volcanologist) to “Howlite”. Aside from its original discovery in Nova Scotia, Howlite can also be found in Germany, Serbia, Turkey and the United States. There are two states with very important deposits in the United States which are California and Nevada. Both places have the only mines in the world where Howlite has been found in crystallized form!”

“Spiderweb Jasper predominantly comes from North American mines. Most of the cuts currently on the market first saw the light of day in Mexico and the Southwestern United States. From a composition standpoint, it’s pretty similar to other forms of Jasper & the stone has a pretty identical texture. Similarities aside, Spiderweb Jasper has a distinct look that stands out from the crowd. It is also known as Black Network Jasper, or just Network Jasper!”
