It's really nice to see the sunshine again after four long & rainy days. We really lucked with the weather at Binghamton Porchfest on Sunday!!
I haven't accessed all the damage after brutal rain, but the garden is looking rather wild. Not only has everything gotten taller, but heavier, which means breakage & things hanging in the way, everywhere. The joy of sunflowers comes with a price. lol They're worth it though & I think the birds, butterflies, bees & squirrels would agree! 🐦🦋🐝🐿
Speaking of squirrels, they love to rip whole sunflower heads off & haul to unsuspecting places around the neighborhood. 😂

When you're having fun, it doesn't feel like work! :)

After we packed up, it was time to go catch some music!
150+ bands, 70 porches, trash/recycle, Porto potties, food vendors, blocked off streets & soooooo many people. (with plenty of room). No easy feat I'm sure, it's pretty remarkable & the organizers should be proud. Truly one of the best events this area has to offer! 💙

I love the quaintness of West Side Binghamton, lovely homes, front yard gardens & cute porches. We made our way around to catch as much as we could.

Happy Farmstand Friday! 🌻💐

Peach season is officially over. Thank YOU to everyone who stopped by for some sweet treats! It was a miracle we had any this year so I'm grateful for what we got. Will not miss the work though.

Tomatoes & peppers are exploding & by next week, there will be a bigger rainbow & more to choose from! I did an experiment this year starting seeds even later, so I didn't have to do as much transplanting before they went in the ground. I'm not sure if I'll regret that decision or not, quite yet. :)

We go from strawberry>blueberry>peach>to raspberry season having fresh fruit all summer. The bulk of it is preserved/frozen for year-round use.
When the raspberries fill in a bit more, we may have some out on the table & will take custom pick to order when available.

As Dolly Parton sang in her 1974 hit, "Love is like a butterfly." 🦋

A philanthropist and country music superstar, Parton's love of butterflies and rhinestones was well-known throughout her life and career.

We mark her passing today by sharing a piece from the museum's Butterfly Collection. This collection, designed by Elvis Gray and Bernadine Johnson, was created to show off a variety of rare colored stones.

The wings of this benitoite butterfly hold 28.71 carats of benitoites with the color graduating from darker to lighter, displaying perhaps the most complete suite of blues that benitoites come in.

Happy Farmstand Friday, ! 🌻🍑

Today, we've got beautiful peaches, some of the best this season. I'm not sure if there'll be any available next Friday, or if so, how much. Peaches are finicky, pick them too early, & they don't ripen, wait too long & they rot, fall to the ground or get eaten by something. 🪰🐜🐦‍⬛
I've learned that selectively harvesting daily/every other day is best (for me). I go by color & feel if they can be reached. When they need to pulled hard from the branch, they're not ready. :)
Also today, some lovely bouquets with many new flower varieties we didn't have last week! Each week will bring something new. 💐
