This piece, Matera, inspired by the juxtaposition of the architecture and rock formations of that ancient city, was selected for the Providence Art Club National Juried Exhibition. Which is exciting for me, as the work is a new venture.
This collection of miniature wall sculptures has allowed me to move from the body to purely sculptural works. I had entered art school as a sculpture major, but soon moved into the light metals/jewelry department. I then discovered I had an affinity for metal and was naturally drawn to creating sculptural pieces for the body.
The common denominators between the sculpture and the jewelry, for me, are spatial relationships: scale, interaction, perspective, proportion, orientation, and the transformative experience created by the convergence of all. And the metal! The elements of metal and stone attract me endlessly. I will always seek out the essence of form, the elemental, and the spirit found within a minimalist’s expression.
