In the late 1800s, playing cards were often considered “scandalous”? 🚫🃏
To fix that, companies in Cincinnati started making “Educational Games” like this “Famous Paintings” set. It made card games look like virtuous study sessions rather than a trip to the saloon.

Colleen Moore (born Kathleen Morrison, 1899–1988) was a major star of the silent film era and is widely credited with popularizing the “flapper” image and the iconic bobbed haircut. By 1927, she was the top box-office draw in the United States, earning a then-staggering $12,500 per week. *Image is a Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate movie star card (No. 77) from a set of 70 cards produced in the 1920s. After retiring from acting in 1934, Colleen focused on her passion for miniatures. She commissioned a massive, elaborate “Fairy Castle” dollhouse (valued at $7 million in 1985), which is now a permanent exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago
