In my 10 years of making metal slap bracelets, I yet to make one without making this joke to myself.

I love when the bracelets are flat and have yet to be slapped into shape with hammers because I can see the whole scene together. Its a special moment I get to have with the bracelets as they show me the full story we wrote together in one scene. I get to see the beginning, the twists, turns, surprises, defeats, wins, all spelled out to the satisfying ending.

When the bracelets are formed into their final round shape, it is like binding all the pages of the story into a book. The story telling shifts and unfolds as the bracelet is turned and explored. It reveals itself chapter by chapter as details are studied and its pages are turned.

Footnote with squishy feelings about metal and jewelry aside- we do all know what slap bracelets are, right? Or am I accidentally aging myself and this was only a 80's/90's thing? When I was making this reel I got extremely paranoid that no one was going to know what the heck I was talking about and this whole joke would make zero sense 🙃 😅

The humble start to the finished oak leaf bracelet.

In making this bracelet, I spent many hours pouring over oak leaves in the forests of the rural land I live and work on to use as inspiration. My work bench looked like the autumnal forest floor outside with both real and metal oak leaves strewn everywhere until *just* the right ones were found.

As I sat in piles of oak leaves studying their details, I got overwhelmed with nostalgic memories of childhood spent jumping in leaf piles and finding joy in nature's magic.

I am grateful to this bracelet and the oak trees here on the land for bringing that childlike wonder back. I enjoyed my time studying details in the leaf piles and forest as much as I did working on the Oakwood bracelet.

It never felt fully completed until I took a walk through the property to show all the oak trees what became of the inspiration they instilled in me. Many conversations of gratitude were had with the trees and the leaves that are now fully at their bases.

Now that its cycle of creation is officially done, it is ready to bring its wearer comforting whispers of joy, strength, wonder, and all the magic of old growth oak trees.

This year's batch of autumn leaf earrings held special meaning to me as I reflected back on what the last year meant for me. New leaves of myself grew out from bare branches to nourish my soul with light through the year. As autumn took hold, these lessons began to shed but only to fall and nourish the soil of my roots letting each one grow stronger and deeper.

Nature is brimming with lessons, cycles, magic, and never ending beauty and I am grateful for it every day. And even more grateful that my work allows me time to reflect on its teachings and capture its wonder in wearable metal jewelry.

What lessons has nature or this last year brought to you? It feels like its been a deep and transformative one for many. As I learned from a rattlesnake bite, one life flight and a four day hospital stay, the snake year energy is a very potent one 😅

Happy Solstice friends! We hope you had a cozy, beautiful, and reflective day. How did you celebrate?

I love Winter Solstice for its introspective magic.
Yesterday, I spent most of the day finishing the last of the post earthquake clean-up. Having a clean house without half done projects staring at me is a joyous feeling. I also spent time barefoot in the garden talking to and thanking the earth. I feel that this solstice was a deep, soul healing release that I desperately needed.

So much has changed for me this year, and yesterday's reflection, release, and gratitude have me finally feeling like I am on stable ground. I feel lighter and ready to tackle this new chapter of my life. The actual ground may still not be fully stable here from aftershocks, but my spiritual ground settled so I can move forward on my path.

Due to the chaos that has been my life the last year, I've been struggling with one of the worst creative blocks I've been through. But today, I feel like that little extra light is a beacon in the dark, gently guiding me back to my creative center. I can't wait to share with you what new jewelry and artistic adventures come from finding that home in my soul again.

Bat Cat and I want to share our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported the earthquake recovery sale so far!

Instead of seeing my bench covered in dirt and broken things, seeing it covered in orders to ship has been making me cry with joy.

This week has been filled with immense stress, fear, frustration, and just overwhelming chaos. But the outpouring of love and support from you is easing so much of that and replacing those big scary feelings with ones of healing. My nervous system is finally starting to feel like I can finally take a breath and tackle the last of putting my life back together.

My car decided to die while dealing with the earthquake clean-up, so I have been unable to make the 40-minute drive to the post office. Luckily, my friend is here and is taking orders to the post office tomorrow for me to meet the Wednesday cut-off for holiday shipping.

She did bring a new battery for my car that we will put in today, and I am crossing all fingers that it gets it going. But as of now, I can't guarantee anything past tomorrow afternoon. I will post an update on shipping times to our stories if I can get my car started.

If this new battery works along with the keyboard she brought for my computer, those are two big wins on fixing broken things!

Thank you so, so much from the bottom of my heart and my everything. It is really hard for me to put myself out there and ask for help, but this amazing community has taught me that it is okay and I am so grateful for that. Yall mean the world to me ❤️

There is a surprise in our stories right now! These new sterling silver bat earrings, along with some autumnal goodies, are available in our Instagram stories.

I started these bats six months ago in my studio in Oakland and just finished them in my new studio deep in the woods of Northern California. When I started them, I would have never dreamed of being where I am now. Having these bats be the guides for the transformation and growth these months make them extra special to me.

It's been such a journey, and I have so much to share with yall! I am finally feeling more at home and less like I am on a strange vacation with all my stuff, my studio, and Bat Cat. I am working towards settling into the new rhythms here, but I am also just enjoying just staring into the woods and watching birds while finding that rhythm.

Currently, though, I am staring at endless hard rain in those woods and wondering if I will be able to get down the mountain tomorrow 😅. If the road is impassable, I at least have lots of new autumn leaves to saw out and a wood stove to curl up with.
