Happy August everyone! The month of August is a special one; back to school shopping, getting that extra pool time in, and of course, birthdays! August has three birthstones: the famous peridot, the versatile spinel, and the traditional sardonyx.

Peridot is found in hardened lava brought to the surface from deep within the Earth and from meteorites from outer space. Because of the extreme conditions this stone is created in, it's rare to find in large sizes. Spinel has been mistaken for famous gemstones for centuries due to it's wide range of vibrant colors (red, pink, orange, blue, purple, teal) and celebrates the 22nd wedding anniversary. Sardonyx is the most ancient August birthstone, dating back to the Romans. Its red, orange, and white bands make it a popular and unique stone used for cameos.

Happy July everyone! We are back from our Independence Day holiday and open for normal business hours. To kick off the start of July, let's talk about the July birthstone. The ruby is one of the most desired gemstones for thousands of years due to its rich red color. Rubies are actually the same kind of mineral as sapphires, called corundum, but get their dazzling red hues from an element called chromium. Rubies are second in hardness only to diamonds and represent both the 15th and 40th wedding anniversaries.
