Diamond Jim Question Of The Day: Is jewelry a good financial investment?
We’re often asked, “Is jewelry a good financial investment?” and our answer is always the same: no—and here’s why.
Jewelry is best viewed as an emotional investment, not a financial one. It brings joy, confidence, and meaning, whether it’s a watch, chain, or ring. However, it typically loses value in resale because you pay retail prices when buying and often receive only scrap value when selling.
There are also ongoing costs like repairs and maintenance, especially for pieces meant to last or be passed down.
If you’re looking for a true financial investment, bullion (gold, silver, platinum in bars or coins) is a better option since it tracks closer to spot value and can appreciate over time.
